Fox Searchlight has just released the Mistress America trailer. The film follows Tracy (Lola Kirke), a freshman college student who finds friendship and inspiration in her stepsister-to-be, Brooke (Greta Gerwig). I saw the movie at Sundance and it feels like it completes a trilogy director Noah Baumbach began with Frances Ha and continued with While We’re Young. All three movies carry a strong New York City vibe, but also feel universal when it comes to exploring the follies of youth. Gerwig, who co-wrote the script, gives another terrific performance, and the film should also put Kirke on people’s radars.

Here’s the official synopsis:

In MISTRESS AMERICA, Tracy (Lola Kirke) is a lonely college freshman in New York, having neither the exciting university experience nor the glamorous metropolitan lifestyle she envisioned. But when she is taken in by her soon-to-be stepsister, Brooke (Greta Gerwig) – a resident of Times Square and adventurous gal about town – she is rescued from her disappointment and seduced by Brooke's alluringly mad schemes.
