Limited Paper: Black Friday Sales from Mondo, Posters and Toys, Spoke Art, and More Announcements

In America, few holidays are as sacred as the one we’ll all be celebrating later this week…no, not that one, the one after Thanksgiving…yes, Black Friday:  the only holiday in the world that routinely involves people being maced and/or trampled to death while fighting over $40 DVD players in a Wal-Mart parking lot.  It truly is the most wonderful time of the year.

And this year Black Friday’s going to be even crazier than usual:  a number of announcements were recently made by some of Limited Paper’s favorite artists, galleries, and poster-producers…and if half of these drops are as badass as we suspect they’re going to be, some of us will be filing for bankruptcy first thing on Saturday.  Wanna know what to expect from Mondo, Spoke Art, Posters and Toys, and others later this week?  Everything we know’s after the jump, folks.

We were pretty sure Black Friday would deliver a brutal beating to the Limited Paper bank account this year, but over the past couple days that “brutal beating” has started to look more and more like a flat-out assassination:  on top of all the sales, specials, and crazy deals being rolled out at Best Buys, Wal-Marts, and GameStops nationwide, Black Friday will also see new poster drops from Mondo, Spoke Art, Posters and Toys, and artist Josh Budich.  Expensive?  Quite possibly.  Exciting?  Definitely.

First up is Posters And Toys’ Deep-Vault Black Friday Bonanza.  Yesterday, Posters And Toys head honcho Mitch Putnam sent out an email giving fans of the site a very unexpected head’s up:  this Friday, P&T will unveil a massive inventory overhaul, one that’s being advertised to include over 100 restocked posters and/or new items.  Most tantalizing, however, was the part where Putnam revealed that a few of Tyler Stout’s long-since-sold-out Mondo posters would be included in that overhaul.  What surprises lay in store for us?  You’ll have to swing by Posters And Toys this Friday to find out.

Next up:  Spoke Art’s “A Very Wes Anderson Black Friday” Sale.  It’s been a minute since we heard from the Spoke Art guys, and it appears that they’ve been hard at work getting plans finalized for a very special drop happening on—you guessed it—Black Friday.  According to the Spoke Art guys, three brand-new Wes Anderson-themed posters will be dropping at the Spoke Art website this Friday (including the piece seen below).  All three will be signed and numbered, and there’s only 20 copies of each print to go around.  In other words, if you’re a Wes Anderson fanatic…you should probably start honing your PayPal-fu skills now.

And finally:  Mondo will unveil Mondo Book, Vol. 2 and (????) on Black Friday.  Let’s get the known quantity out of the way first:  on Friday, Mondo will release the second volume in the “Mondo Book” series, a hardcover collection of recent Mondo posters all contained in one easy-to-flip-through “book”.  For those that have never seen one of these IRL, I’m being literal:  the pages are actually Mondo posters that—for one reason or another—weren’t quite fit for active duty (see photo below).

The Mondo Book’s first volume went on sale back in March (at the opening of the Mondo Gallery), and in the time since fans who purchased the book have discovered that it’s perfect for collecting sketches and/or autographs in.  If you seek out artists for sketches at Mondo events, gallery shows, or Comic-Con, you might wanna consider picking up one of these when they drop on Friday:  only 100 were made, so don’t be surprised if they sell out quickly.

On top of that release, Mondo has also implied that a few other surprises will be revealed on Black Friday.  If years past are any indication, it’s going to be something impressive (unless I’m remembering incorrectly, this is the same day Mondo released Olly Moss’ My Neighbor Totoro set last year), and it’s also likely that there’ll be more than one thing dropping.  Might we finally see Tyler Stout’s Drive?  Olly Moss’ next Studio Ghibli print(s)?  Martin Ansin’s sure-to-be-classic take on Garbage Pail Kids: The Movie?  You’ll have to keep an eye on Mondo’s Twitter feed—where they’ll announce the drop(s) once it/they are live—between 10am and Noon CST this Friday.

And after the weekend:  Josh Budich’s Cyber-Monday “Mystery Tube” Sale.  We don’t wanna tell anyone how to run their show, obviously, but…waiting for Cyber-Monday to launch a big-ass sale?  Won’t everyone be broke by then?  Eh, perhaps, but if you’re a Josh Budich fan, you’re gonna wanna make sure you set a few Black Friday bucks aside:   on November 26th, Budich will kick off his very own “Mystery Tube” sale.  For just $45 shipped (or $50 if you’re not in the States), you, too, can purchase a tube containing three Budich-prints-O-mystery.

But wait, there’s more:  a few lucky buyers will also get a fourth print in their tubes, and Budich tells us that those prints will be the rarest of the bunch (a few of ‘em can be glimpsed in the photo below, but if you’re curious to know more about this sale—and what bonus prints Budich might have on-hand– head on over to his online store for a few more details).  Here’s hoping that everyone who orders gets what they want!

By no means are these the only drops happening on (or around) Black Friday, but they are the ones we’re most excited about (and besides, if we stood here listing off all the drops that are scheduled to take place across Poster World on November 23rd, we’d still be listing ‘em off well into next week).  If you’re in the market to pick up some new prints, you should absolutely start poking around the web to find out where and when all these drops are taking place.  Once Saturday rolls around—and  all the madness has died down—we’ll probably run a “Black Friday Roundup” just to make sense of it all.

Stay tuned for that, folks!  And as always, remember:   if you’re an artist or gallery with artwork you’d like to see featured on Limited Paper (or if you’re just some lucky bastard who happened to overhear a bit of poster-related gossip while standing in the bushes outside Martin Ansin’s house) we wanna hear from you!  Email Limited Paper directly at LimitedPaper@gmail.com, and be sure that you’re following us on Twitter via @LimitedPaper for ongoing commentary, news updates, giveaways, and more!
