Limited Paper: Mondo’s Second-Annual Oscar Night Poster Drop Featured 14 New Posters Including Tyler Stout’s DJANGO UNCHAINED & Durieux’s THE MASTER

Last year, Mondo put together a fun little event for the 2012 Academy Awards:  a few days prior to that Oscar Sunday, Mondo announced that a series of brand-new posters (all of which were based on that year’s Oscar-nominated films) would be dropping throughout the Academy’s broadcast.  Everyone dug the idea, the whole thing went off without a hitch, and—most importantly—waiting on a drop gave all of us something to focus on whenever watching the Oscars became too much to bear.

And so, when the Mondo guys announced they’d be doing it all over again in 2013, we were pumped (as were many of you).  But once that excitement died down, we were left wondering which of 2012’s Oscar-nominated films would get the Mondo treatment…and which of the rumors we’d been hearing would turn out to be true.  Answers to those questions (and many more) await you after the jump, folks.

By now you know that Mondo dropped a ton of new prints on us during the Oscars last night (FYI, that means they’ve all been sold out for hours now).  But maybe you weren’t able to get a good look at ‘em as they went on sale via Mondo’s store, or maybe you just want a second peek:  whatever the case may be, we’ve got every one of ‘em listed below.  A word of warning before we press on, though:  we’ve doubled up some of the entries below, in which case the variant edition will always be on the left (which means the regular edition will always be on the right).  This seems self-explanatory, I know, but just you wait:  someone’ll send me a confused email about that very issue within an hour of this writeup going live.  Don’t be that guy, reader.  Now get going:

A hearty congratulations to everyone who scored any of these last night!  I managed to snag a Master print and an Argo for someone I was PB’ing for, but when the Stout Django dropped my internet/laptop/electronics-in-general/the universe itself decided to keep me hanging on the “Calculating Shipment” screen for an absurd amount of time.  Come to think of it, I may still have that endlessly-calculating tab open somewhere around here…

But let’s not get distracted.  Overall, Mondo’s second annual Oscar Night Poster Extravaganza was made up of pleasant surprises (and—against all odds—the drop also contained  a handful of the prints we’d been hearing rumors about for the past few weeks:  that’s right, for once the rumor mill was correct), up to and including the fact that 14 posters dropped when most people were only expecting about half that number to appear (also unexpected:  the pretty-damn-big edition sizes).  We congratulate the Mondo crew on an event well-managed and executed, and hope to see ‘em back at it next year.

Now then:  as is always the case around here: if you’re an artist or gallery with artwork you’d like to see featured on Limited Paper (or if you’re just some lucky bastard who happened to overhear a bit of poster-related gossip while standing in the bushes outside Martin Ansin’s house) we wanna hear from you!  Email Limited Paper directly at LimitedPaper@gmail.com, and be sure that you’re following us on Twitter via @LimitedPaper for ongoing commentary, news updates, giveaways, and more!

Nice write-up, but there’s a typo in your title above the address bar:
