If you’ve been following along with us here at Limited Paper, you know that we’re currently knee-deep in Fantastic Fest 2012, right here in our hometown of Austin, TX. As everyone expected, Mondo’s going to have a huge presence at Fantastic Fest this year, dropping new posters for Dredd 3D, Room 237, Looper, and…well, there are a few other surprises in the works, and we’re going to be covering the Mondo presence at Fantastic Fest 2012 all weekend long.
But let’s pause for just a moment to look ahead, all the way to October 19th. What’s happening then? Oh, nothing wildly exciting: just the biggest gallery show Mondo’s ever held, one centered entirely upon their Universal Monsters license. After you’ve changed pants, meet me after the jump for everything we know about October’s Universal Monsters show at the Mondo Gallery.
The rumor we’ve all heard for months was finally confirmed this morning, revealed in a press release that may well be the most glorious thing that Limited Paper has ever laid eyes upon. Here’s what Limited Paper had waiting in its inbox when we woke up this morning:
The next mega gallery show from Mondo will profile the classic Universal Monsters from dozens of world-renowned artists including Martin Ansin, Rick Baker, JC Richard, Kevin Tong, Ken Taylor and many more. The gallery will also include original, never-before-seen works from legendary poster artist Drew Struzan. A full roster of artists can be found in the postcard image in the download link below.
The gallery show runs October 19 – November 10, with an opening reception on October 19 from 7 – 10pm.
Whoa. Just…whoa. We’ve been hearing this rumor for months—and particularly over the past month—but finally it’s been confirmed. Just take a look at some of the artists that are included on this roster (prepare to change pants again):
Drew Struzan? Martin Ansin? Kevin Tong? Ken Taylor? Rick effing Baker?! Y’know, going back to Comic-Con 2012, Limited Paper was told that Mondo had a major gallery show in the works, one that would feature more artwork and prints than any previous gallery show they’ve held. We’d heard whispers that this show was going to be centered around Universal Monsters, but…good God, are we happy this these rumors turned out to be true. And guess what? That’s not all:
And to celebrate, Mondo is kicking things off at Fantastic Fest with the debut of CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON by Laurent Durieux, which will be available for sale at the Mondo pop-up store at the Alamo Drafthouse S. Lamar on Friday, 9/21.
Yes, if you’re in Austin, Texas for Fantastic Fest 2012, you’re going to be able to pick up the poster below at some undetermined time at the Alamo Drafthouse tomorrow afternoon:
- Creature From The Black Lagoon by Laurent Durieux
- $50 regular edition of 475
Holy Christmas. This has been a helluva morning. In fact, we’re going to need to have a sit and process this stuff for a little while, lest Limited Paper’s head should explode all over the screen of my fancy-pants laptop. As always, you can stay tuned to Limited Paper in the days, weeks, and months ahead for more information on Mondo’s forthcoming Universal Monsters Gallery show, as well as all the other prints they’ve got dropping during Fantastic Fest 2012.
