Disney revealed today at CinemaCon that the official title to Pixar’s sequel to 2001’s Monsters, Inc. is Monsters University. While details on the film are, in true Pixar fashion, being held tightly under lock and key, the film is said to be a prequel. The rumored plot involves the tale of how Mike Wazowski (voiced by Billy Crystal) and James P. Sullivan (voiced by John Goodman) become best friends in college, at the University of Fear no less, after starting out as enemies.
No word on which cast members will return for the sequel besides Crystal and Goodman, but hopefully Steve Buscemi’s character Randall makes an appearance. Monsters University is currently slated for a November 2nd, 2012 release.
oHHHH YAY another sequel! Just what I wanted to see from the greatest computer animation studio on the planet!
my thoughts exactly. Brave looks amazing though.
While I agree that I wish Pixar would lay off the sequels – even they have to appease the stockholders apparently – I have to admit:
This sounds like a LOT of fun already.
if any Pixar movie needs a sequel its The Incredibles. and agreed on the sequel talk, I really hope the studio that has had the most original and creative ideas of the past 10 years doesn’t stray from that method just to make some extra cash…
Let me just say that I for one am very relieved that this is going to be a prequel rather than a sequel, having a sequel to Monsters, Inc. would ruin everything that made the ending of the first so beautiful, but a prequel would be a good way to return to that world and those characters without damaging the original.
Also, as far as fears of Pixar selling out goes, Iger confirmed at the recent share holder meeting that Pixar is working on several new properties that they haven’t announced yet and Monsters University is the last sequel/prequel that they have planned for a while.
It’s prequel, not sequel!
