First Trailer for Wes Anderson’s MOONRISE KINGDOM

     January 12, 2012

The first trailer for Wes Anderson‘s Moonrise Kingdom has gone online and the film looks unmistakably Wes Anderson.  It goes right up to the line of a parody, but it looks like the “Bad Dads” subtext has finally washed away.  Instead, the story centers on a young boy and girl who decide to run away together and the madness of the ensuing search.  There looks to be more quirks than you can shake a branch-with-nails-sticking-out-of-it at, but Anderson’s always added enough depth and shading to his characters to make those quirks work.  If you hate Anderson’s work, there’s no way this is going to turn you around; for everyone else, it looks like he’s back in fine form with a seriously funny movie.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film stars Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, Jared Gilman, and Kara HaywardMoonrise Kingdom opens May 25th.

On the whole, I like Wes Anderson movies. I’m not in love with them, but I like his whole… shtick. I thought Fantastic Mr. Fox was his best so I wish he could have done another animated movie, but regardless, this one has another great cast so I hope to see it.

I agree with Elitist Prick, I’m like his whole “shtick” I like all of his movies but I love Royal Tenenbaums and Fantastic Mr. Fox might just be his best movie.

A great cast in this one for sure, I will definitely be seeing it, I love the quirkiness, music, tone, feel etc etc of all his movies, so count me in

people used to think Woody Allen films were a shtick but boy did he show his talent. Wes is kind of like Woody as he’s created a distinctive body of work that can only be attributed to him. cant wait to see more bill murray!

I have followed his work from the beginning and anyone that can make luggage into a character, an important character that embodies deep emotional connections to the other characters is a genius!

Very happy that the designer and the company for Louis Vitton was so willing to be a part in a great film. The Dargheeling Ltd. of course and I am too tired to check my spelling, sorry for that!

Love you Wes! And Fantastic Mr. Fox? Pitch perfect!

Holy smokes that looks fee-nominal! I know its a stretch…but that looks like it might be one of his best efforts to date. Great trailer. Can’t wait.

I’m a casual fan of Wes Anderson’s work. I haven’t LOVED a single one of his movies, though I’ve enjoyed a few. However, this looks to be a great premise and use of his talents. Looking forward to it.
