Here’s the first of what promises to be a lot of casting news over the next few days:
- Olga Kurylenko (Oblivion) and Vincent Cassel (Black Swan) clash in Stephen Campanelli’s action thriller, Momentum. Morgan Freeman (Now You See Me) and Shea Whigham (Silver Linings Playbook) co-star.
- Rupert Grint (CBGB), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), James D’Arcy (Cloud Atlas) and Jason Flemyng (X-Men: First Class), Neil Maskell (Kill List) and Joe Gilgun (This is England) join Vincent Regan’s Macbeth adaptation, Enemy of Man, with Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) in the lead.
- Tom Hopper (Knights of Badassdom), Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Irish actress Charlie Murphy (Philomena), Ed Skrein (The Sweeney), Ken Duken (Inglorious Basterds), Anatole Taubman (Quantum of Solace) and James Norton (Rush) star in Claudio Fäh’s Northmen – A Viking Saga.

Variety reports that Kurylenko and Cassel will clash as a thief on the run against the leader of an assassins’ gang in Momentum, scripted by Adam Marcus and Debra Sullivan. The film plans to go into production on January 13, 2014 in Cape Town with an expected release date of fall 2014. Campanelli is best known as Clint Eastwood’s longtime camera operator and will leverage those 20 years of experience to go behind the camera himself in his directorial debut.
THR reports on the latest casting additions to Enemy of Man, pitched as “a retelling of a timeless tale of war, regicide, betrayal and untimely revenge.” There’s also a competing Macbeth picture out there from director Justin Kurzel that stars Marion Cotillard as Lady Macbeth and Michael Fassbender in the title role.
A gang of Viking marauders under the command of their young leader, Asbjörn, bear down on the coast of Britain, intent on pillaging Lindisfarne of its gold. But, caught in a vicious storm, their longboat is dashed to pieces on the rocks off Scotland. Trapped deep within enemy territory, the shipwrecked mens’ only chance of survival is to reach the safety of the Viking stronghold Danelag.
With only the enigmatic Conall, a monk who preaches with his sword to help them, they cut a bloody swath through anyone who gets in their way. But the journey becomes a race for their lives when the King of Scotland sends his most feared mercenaries, the Wolf Pack, after them. Traversing an unfamiliar and hostile land, they are pursued relentlessly. However the hunters become the hunted when the Vikings, eager for battle, set deadly traps and mercilessly decimate their pursuers one by one…
