A new Mr Holmes trailer has gone online, and it takes us deeper into the plot of Bill Condon’s Sherlock Holmes film. Previously titled A Slight Trick of the Mind, the film was directed by Bill Condon (Gods and Monsters, Kinsey) and takes place in 1947, where Holmes is now living in retirement with his housekeeper (Laura Linney) and her amateur-sleuthing son.  Holmes is haunted by a cold case from fifty years ago, and sets out to solve it once and for all without his dear Watson at his side.

This trailer shows the emotional aspect to the case where we see that Holmes blames himself but also Watson for burying the truth of their failure, and I like the blend of melancholy and excitement that permeates this latest look at the movie.

Check out the trailer below. The film opens in the U.K. on June 19th and also stars Roger Allam and Hiroyuki Sanada.
