The first images from Mark Waters’ adaptation of the children’s book Mr. Popper’s Penguins have gone online.  The film stars Jim Carrey as,

“Tom Popper, a New York real estate developer who tears down beloved landmarks (like Tavern on the Green) and erects cookie-cutter skyscrapers in their place. His one-track mind-set leaves him estranged from his family, including his wife (Carla Gugino), who has divorced him and moved on to a new relationship.  And for years he has been out of contact with his “kooky” father, who leaves him with an unusual inheritance: a penguin. The bewildered Popper registers a complaint which is met with the arrival of another five birds.

The film uses real penguins instead of CGI and used refrigerated sets to keep the adorable animals cool.  Hit the jump to check out the images.  Mr. Popper’s Penguins is due out August 12th.

  1. This movie is SO not believable. Any real man would give up his rich job and go work at McDonald’s if he was married to Carla Gugino, rather than lose her.

This is God’s honest truth, I’m 23 years old, and Carla Gugino walked right be at Comic Con, on her way to the WB Booth. I yelled out “Love you Carla!” just in a ‘she’s hot, love most of her work’ (Karen Sisco, Threshold etc…) kind of way and without stopping she turned back, smiled and said “Thanks”. I about fell over… in a very manly way

    • You ever hear of suspension of disbelief? That’s the whole reason movies exist in the first place. Who gives a shit if it’s in the realm of existence.
