20th Century Fox has released a new trailer for the family film Mr. Popper’s Penguins.  Jim Carrey stars as divorced New York real estate developer: “for years he has been out of contact with his 'kooky' father, who leaves him with an unusual inheritance: a penguin.”  Carla Gugino, Angela Lansbury, and Madeline Carroll also star.  Mark Waters (Ghosts of Girlfriends Past) directs from a script by Jared Stern (The Princess and the Frog) and screenwriting team Sean Anders and John Morris (Hot Tub Time Machine), based on the 1938 children’s novel.

Mr. Popper's Penguins opens June 17.  Watch the trailer after the break.

The penguin dance scene continues to be adorable, but why does the trailer editor insist on playing "Ice Ice Baby" under it?  Should I chase the cuteness if I must drown in nonsensical antics in the process?  I think Carroll is a very promising young actress, and I'd like to see more of her work -- this may be the deciding factor that pushes me toward "Yes, I will go see this movie."

Official synopsis:

Thomas Popper (Jim Carrey) has spent his entire life working to become the number one real estate mogul in New York City.  He has sacrificed everything... friends, family, and even his own happiness.  But on the brink of the biggest deal of his career, he receives a gift - a mysterious crate from Antarctica - from his long missing father. What's inside the crate marks the end of Popper's comfortable and well-ordered existence, and the beginning of his new life as caretaker, landlord and parent figure to six unforgettable penguins, each with a distinct personality.
