Don't get me wrong: I enjoyed the last two rebooted Muppets movies thoroughly, and it was an especial treat to see Jason Segal interacting with the likes of Gonzo, Kermit, and, my favorite, Fozzie Bear. That being said, I am beyond excited for the return of the best puppets in the history of the world to a weekly show format, able to more openly embrace the variety show roots of the series. Admittedly, I broke into a galvanized jig that really is inappropriate for a man above the edge of, well, 6 when I heard the news, and did it once again today when the series premiere of ABC's The Muppets as announced as part of ABC's release of their fall schedule. The Muppets will premiere at 8 p.m. EST on September 22nd, serving as a lead-in for the mildly underrated Fresh Off the Boat. The schedule also sets a premiere date for the consistently underwhelming Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., so, you know....there's that.
