My Week With Marilyn has begun principal photography and the production has released the first image of Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe. The film centers on a week Monroe’s life in the summer of 1956 on the set of the movie The Prince and the Showgirl. My Week with Marilyn is directed by Simon Curtis (Return to Cranford) costars Eddie Redmayne, Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench, Dominic Cooper, Emma Watson, and Julia Ormond. Filming is scheduled to continue for the next seven weeks at Pinewood Studios and on location in and around London. Friday 8th October, London. Trademark Films and The Weinstein Company have announced that principal photography has started on My Week with Marilyn for 7 weeks at Pinewood Studios and on location in and around London. Michelle Williams plays the iconic Marilyn Monroe alongside a fantastic British cast including Eddie Redmayne, Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench, Dominic Cooper, Emma Watson and Julia Ormond. The film chronicles a week in the life of Marilyn Monroe in which she escapes the shackles of her Hollywood career and embraces British life with Colin Clark. Directed by Simon Curtis and produced by David Parfitt, the film is based on Colin Clark’s diaries and has been adapted for the screen by Adrian Hodges.
In the early summer of 1956, 23 year-old Colin Clark, just down from Oxford and determined to make his way in the film business, worked as a lowly assistant on the set of ‘The Prince and the Showgirl’, the film that famously united Sir Laurence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe, who was also on honeymoon with her new husband, the playwright Arthur Miller.
Nearly 40 years on, his diary account ‘The Prince, the Showgirl and Me’ was published, but one week was missing and this was published some years later as ‘My Week with Marilyn’ – this is the story of that week. When Arthur Miller leaves England, the coast is clear for Colin to introduce Marilyn to some of the pleasures of British life; an idyllic week in which he escorted a Monroe desperate to get away from her retinue of Hollywood hangers-on and the pressures of work.

This is an amazing all-star cast but there are too many actresses playing Marilyn Monroe in different projects. Michelle Williams in this, Naomi Watts in Blonde, Angelina Jolie was rumoured in The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog, and of His Friend, Marilyn Monroe. I wish only one actress would play her in every project.
Jolie is not doing a Marilyn Monroe film. She was asked in an interview and said she never heard about it before. It was another case of name dropping Jolie’s name to bring attention to a dead project.

as a huge marilyn historian and collector, i have to agree and have always known that no one other than scarlett should attempt to play marilyn. pony up the money boys if you want viewer believability!!
Scarlet Johansson is another actress that just pases for sexy and sultry. She is not a character actress but is very good at being Natural. They should have had Cate Blanchet gain 20lbs and put her as Marilyn…not to say Michelle Williams wont do well… And if Angelina Jolie plays her Im going to spit!!

I am very disappointed that Williams will be playing Marilyn, with all the hollywood money they should have gone out with a full cast to find someone to play Marilyn, something natural that Marilyn had, not of this hollywood we seen it before and I am not that impressed. Do not get me wrong, Michelle Williams is a good actress but she lacks the natural beauty that Monroe had and the sweet innocence of the unknowing of the hollywood darkness. Is everyone forgetting that Marilyn not only had special qualities she can not be replaced and if so please hollywood what sadness to just settle for what hollywood has to offer between Williams and Naomi Watts, please…like I said the world should have been turn upside down, all over, to find someone not from hollywood to play Marilyn. Not that I was to replace Marilyn, but like Marilyn she was based on something new, something different and a rare find, she made stardom from nothing and in tribute to Marilyn it would have been nice to give that opportunity to another that wants to be in lights!
Trust me, you will NOT be disappointed. Michelle Williams is one INCREDIBLE Marilyn Monroe!!!
How about we watch the movie first ladies and gentlemen? Michelle is a very good actress and I believe that she has this little girl lost look which is evident in Marilyn. Geez what the hell has happened to us? We are all critics of something we have yet to see, seems what’s the word i am looking for? That’s right. Ignorant. And by the by Marilyn was not such an amazing actress. She died early and tragically that’s why everyone wets themselves over her. She was no Hepburn. So calm down people. So since we are adults let’s give Ms. Willams a shot before we stone her, okay?
Omg i so totally agree with Dom and Mland9. Scarlett Johannson should be the only one to attempt to play Marilyn. Scarlett looks so much like Marilyn, her body, face and hair. I mean shes even been calld the modern day Marilyn Monroe.
