First Trailer for MY WEEK WITH MARILYN

     October 5, 2011

The first trailer for My Week With Marilyn has gone online. Based on the memoirs of Lawrence Olivier’s assistant Colin Clark, the film details a week in the life of Marilyn Monroe as seen through the eyes of Clark. The trailer looks pretty great, and Michelle Williams looks to be going all out for the role of Monroe. It’s impressive to see her play the dichotomy of the public Marilyn and the private Marilyn, and Williams seems to be holding nothing back. I like the character-centric plot, and I’m interested to see where the overall arc of the film goes.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Kenneth Branagh, Dominic Cooper, Julia Ormond, Judi Dench, Emma Watson, and Eddie Redmayne. My Week With Marilyn opens on November 4th.

Here’s the official synopsis:

In the early summer of 1956, 23 year-old Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne), just down from Oxford and determined to make his way in the film business, worked as a lowly assistant on the set of ‘The Prince and the Showgirl’. The film that famously united Sir Laurence Olivier (Kenneth Branagh) and Marilyn Monroe (Michelle Williams), who was also on honeymoon with her new husband, the playwright Aurthur Miller (Dougray Scott).

Nearly 40 years on, his diary account The Prince, the Showgirl and Me was published, but one week was missing and this was published some years later as My Week with Marilyn – this is the story of that week.  When Arthur Miller leaves England, the coast is clear for Colin to introduce Marilyn to some of the pleasures of British life; an idyllic week in which he escorted a Monroe desperate to get away from her retinue of Hollywood hangers-on and the pressures of work.

Michelle Williams seems quite alright as Marilyn Monroe.

She definitely fits better than many other actors or actresses fit their respective roles in biopics over the decades.

Love Michelle, but I’m not too convinced she can play Marilyn Monroe. She’s a different kind of beauty, and can’t be compared to Marilyn in my opinion.

I agree with Au. That’s what I’ve been thinking ever since casting news and even promo photos. But I have to admit, the trailer looks really well done. I think I will go see this one.

Look nobody can compare with Marilyn. Michelle will be terrific and will bring some of the Marilyn magic to the screen. All should see this movie.
