Travel back with me to September 2012 when we reported that Natalie Portman was in talks to lead Jackie, which was originally supposed to be directed by Darren Aronofsky and star his then-wife Rachel Weisz. Since then, word went dead, and the project returned to development hell.

But it has now been resurrected, Portman is officially set to star, and Aronofsky will produce while Pablo Larrain (No) is on board to direct.

The story takes place in the four days that followed John F. Kennedy’s assassination, and looks at how his wife Jackie dealt with the personal and public repercussions. “Jackie talks about the days when Jackie Kennedy becomes an icon but has lost everything,” Wild Bunch’s Vincent Marava told Variety.

Filming on Jackie is set to begin at the end of 2015.

Portman, who is apparently determined to play every important American woman of the 20th century, also recently signed on to play Ruth Bader Ginsburg in On the Basis of Sex. The actress will be seen in theaters later this year in Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups, the western Jane Got a Gun, and her directing debut A Tale of Love and Darkness.
