Neill Blomkamp Says ALIEN 5 Had to Be Changed Because of PROMETHEUS 2

After two underwhelming features, Chappie director Neill Blomkamp perhaps should have gone a little smaller with his next project. Instead, he lined up a new Alien film before Chappie could tank, and now he’s carrying a huge franchise that hasn’t had a sequel since 1997. But none of that has deterred him from feeling he knows the right direction for Alien 5. He’s already suggested he’s disregarding Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, except not entirely, but in a recent interview with Empire [via The Playlist], he once again made it clear that he has no love for those films:

“Where it went after ‘Aliens’ to me, as a fan, was wrong,” he says adding, “There’s a shitload missing as a fan that I would want to see.”

It takes a bit of chutzpah to say that Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection are wrong after admitting that Elysium was a fuck-up because he got caught up in the visuals and lost track of the story.

And whatever the story may be has been adjusted to make way for Prometheus 2. Blomkamp also tells Empire, “I changed the one thing [Ridley Scott] felt was bumping [the] ‘Prometheus’ [sequel] a little bit,” and that the title is “quite bold,” but it would give away too much if he said it. Personally, I’m still hoping the title will be Prometheus: The Misadventures of Shaw and a Severed Android Head.
