Fox Searchlight has released a new clip from Mark Romanek’s adaptation of the acclaimed Kazuo Ishiguro novel Never Let Me Go, which features Oscar nominees Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley sharing a brief scene, punctuated by a kiss. Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) also stars as one of three friends who leave their “seemingly idyllic” English boarding school only to discover a terrible fate. If you’re a fan of the book, the actors, or emotional scenes set in dark bedrooms, you can check out the clip after the jump.
The marketing department has so far done a fantastic job of not spoiling key plot details. The posters, the trailer, this clip. It’s refreshing.
I let myself get a bit spoiled. Just enough so that I’m making arrangements to read the book before Never Let Me Go opens on September 15th, not so much that I need to consider hari kari. If you have remained pure, I’d suggest you find a few critics you can trust, and take their recommendation on faith.
The official synopsis:

Kathy (Carey Mulligan), Tommy (Andrew Garfield) and Ruth (Keira Knightley) live in a world and a time that feel familiar to us, but are not quite like anything we know. They spend their childhood at Hailsham, a seemingly idyllic English boarding school. When they leave the shelter of the school and the terrible truth of their fate is revealed to them, they must also confront the deep feelings of love, jealousy and betrayal that threaten to pull them apart.
