To follow up the new trailer that we posted yesterday, here’s a new Paul featurette with some fresh footage of the Alien comedy and a couple of golden quotes from stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. This is the latest  in our extensive coverage of the movie, so make sure you’re up to date with the poster, set report, and our interviews with Pegg and Frost. The film sees the pair as sci-fi geeks road tripping via Comic-Con to UFO sites and Area 51 when they close encounter an actual alien, Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen), and suddenly find themselves on a mission to return him to his mother ship. Paul is due for release stateside on 18th March 2011 and will be in UK cinemas exactly one month earlier. Alongside Pegg and Frost, it stars Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, Sigourney Weaver, Bill Hader, and Joe Lo Truglio. Hit the jump for the featurette and more.

The clip is well worth watching for a variety of reasons, including a few seconds of unseen footage, plus it’s only a couple of minutes long, so unless you’re in an extreme rush, watch it. On the off chance you are, here’s a summary:

  • They summarize the plot,  and reference Paul’s existence on Earth for 60 years.
  • Frost details his character Clive, a science fiction writer.
  • Pegg talks briefly about his character Graeme, describing him as “very sweet, he’s an innocent.”
  • They laugh about being English in America and how they are perceived. “It’s good being foreign in America…Some American’s have a funny view of British people.”
  • They discuss the actual road trip they enjoyed together.

Here’s a cracking quote from the clip: “Simon and I had never been on a road trip, in a giant RV…in the states.” I’d love to know where they have been on a road trip in a giant RV. Their’s is a bromance worth documenting! Here’s the clip via HeyUGuys.

How’s that for a slice of fried gold? Sounds like they had an absolute ball making this, and I’m sure that will come across in the movie. Personally, I can’t wait for my first extra-terrestrial experience. Bring Paul!

For those just tuning in, here’s the official synopsis for Paul:

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) reunite for the comedy adventure Paul as two sci-fi geeks whose pilgrimage takes them to America’s UFO heartland.  While there, they accidentally meet an alien who brings them on an insane road trip that alters their universe forever.

For the past 60 years, an alien named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen) has been hanging out at a top-secret military base.  For reasons unknown, the space-traveling smart ass decides to escape the compound and hop on the first vehicle out of town—a rented RV containing Earthlings Graeme Willy (Pegg) and Clive Collings (Frost).

Chased by federal agents and the fanatical father of a young woman that they accidentally kidnap, Graeme and Clive hatch a fumbling escape plan to return Paul to his mother ship.  And as two nerds struggle to help, one little green man might just take his fellow outcasts from misfits to intergalactic heroes.
