A new Hellboy trailer is now available, courtesy of Summit Entertainment, in all of its red-band glory. This new look at the R-rated reboot does some heavy lifting on a number of fronts: First of all, it acts as a quick origin story/explainer for the title hero, a half-demon raised from the pits of Hell by Nazi occultists (this time sporting red-and-blue lensed 3D glasses with a very obvious swastika. Secondly, it serves to separate itself from the Guillermo del Toro-directed films that came before it, mostly by dropping F bombs, upping the gore factor, and going full-tilt on the demonic mythology. Sure, we're a little tired of the same old "evil force threatens to destroy the world, yadda yadda", but if blood showers, hell-dragon riding, punching the ghosts out of people, and watching Daniel Dae Kim's Ben Daimio transform into a were-jaguar don't get you excited, nothing will. We're hella onboard for this one.

From comics creator/producer Mike Mignola and director Neil Marshall, the new R-rated Hellboy stars David Harbour in the lead. Written by Andrew Cosby, the film also stars Milla Jovovich as the fifth-century sorceress Nimue the Blood Queen, Ian McShane as mentor Professor Bruttenholm, Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan, and Penelope Mitchell as Ganeida, an elder to Nimue. Hellboy opens in theaters on April 12th -- check out the new trailer below:

Here’s the official synopsis for Hellboy:

Hellboy is back, and he’s on fire. From the pages of Mike Mignola’s seminal work, this action packed story sees the legendary half-demon superhero (David Harbour, “Stranger Things”) called to the English countryside to battle a trio of rampaging giants. There he discovers The Blood Queen, Nimue (Milla Jovovich, Resident Evil series), a resurrected ancient sorceress thirsting to avenge a past betrayal. Suddenly caught in a clash between the supernatural and the human, Hellboy is now hell-bent on stopping Nimue without triggering the end of the world.
