While it’s become commonplace to bemoan Pixar’s over-reliance on sequels, 2018 brings us a follow-up that audiences actually want: Incredibles 2. A sequel to director Brad Bird’s critically acclaimed 2004 film has been discussed for years, with Bird maintaining that he had an idea for a follow-up. After working in the live-action realm with Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Tomorrowland, Bird finally returned to Pixar with this idea in hand, and Incredibles 2 has had one of the smoother production processes at the studio. Development went so well that Pixar moved up the film’s release date, swapping spots with the troubled Toy Story 4.
Now Disney and Pixar have unveiled a new Incredibles 2 poster that offers a new look at the film in a very humorous way. This franchise is all about family, and this poster finds the Parrs on a little summer vacation—albeit with a superhero twist. As you can see, it’s never a good idea to wear your superhero mask in the sun.
The sequel shifts its focus from Bob (Craig T. Nelson) to Helen (Holly Hunter), as Elastigirl takes center stage on a mission while Mr. Incredible must stay home and take care of the kids, chores, etc. It’s a fun spin on the modern family, and given Bird’s talent I’m curious to see how deftly he weaves a superhero tale with a story relevant to the times we’re living in.
Check out the new Incredibles 2 poster below. Featuring the voices of Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell, Huck Milner, Samuel L. Jackson, Bob Odenkirk, Catherine Keener, Jonathan Banks, Sophia Bush, and Isabella Rossellini, Incredibles 2 is slated for a June 15th release date.
