Sony Pictures has released a new trailer for the new Men in Black movie, titled Men in Black: International. Details on the plot are still scarce beyond a story involving a mole inside MiB, but the film toes the line between reboot and continuation as Emma Thomson reprises her role as Agent O from Men in Black 3. Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are the new leads, with Thompson playing a woman who's been searching for the Men in Black ever since she had an alien encounter as a child and wasn't neuralized. Hemsworth, meanwhile, plays MiB's star agent who is set as Thompson's partner.

Straight Outta Compton and Fate of the Furious director F. Gary Gray steps into the director's chair, taking over for Barry Sonnenfeld who helmed the first three movies. He's working from a screenplay by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man), and Sonnenfeld and Steven Spielberg remain onboard as executive producers.

As this trailer explains, the villains this time around are a group of shapeshifting aliens that can look like anyone, including Men in Black agents. This creates a kind of MIB vs. MIB where they’re each shooting their own gadgets at each other. But what you’re really here for is the chemistry between Hemsworth and Thompson, and that looks like it’s lost none of its spark since Thor: Ragnarok. More importantly, it also makes this different than the Smith/Jones MIB movies where a craggy veteran works with a young hotshot. I’m glad there’s a different dynamic on the table and that Hemsworth and Thompson are bringing their own comic energy to this project. There’s a line and moment from Hemsworth near the end of the trailer that got a big laugh from me, and I’m hoping for that same kind of attitude throughout the movie.

My only qualm is that it seems pretty obvious that Liam Neeson’s character is the mole. If he’s not, they’re doing a heavy amount of misdirection since mentor-who-is-actually-bad is kind of a tired trope. However, it seems to obvious that I have to believe that the mole is some other character. You don’t want people guessing the twist before they even walk into the theater.

Check out the new Men in Black: International trailer below. The film opens June 14th and also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Kumail Najiani, Rafe Spall, Laurent Bourgeois, Larry Bourgeois and Liam Neeson.
