Sony has released a new Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer, but if you haven't seen Avengers: Endgame yet, don't watch it. The upcoming sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming takes Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and friends out of New York City and off to Europe on a school trip. Though he leaves his super-suit behind for the chance to be “Just Peter Parker”, he’s soon recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D.’s own Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to battle some elemental monstrosities that pop up during their itinerary.

So we now know the first Far from Home trailer was so basic because it was hiding some major plot points: this movie takes place after Avengers: Endgame, and finds Peter Parker and Happy Hogan trying to move on following Iron Man's exit. Not only that, but Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio claims he's from a different version of Earth, confirming that the events of Endgame did in fact create a multiverse. WELL THEN.

This actually looks really great, and I love the idea that Far from Home is essentially a grief sequel, chronicling what you do to try and move on. Moreover, we'll hopefully get some serious follow-up on Nick Fury after what happened in Endgame, because boy did the guy who started the Avengers get the short shrift in that one.

Check out the new Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer below. The film opens July 2nd and also stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Marisa Tomei, Cobie Smulders, Angourie Rice, Martin Starr, JB Smoove, and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Here’s the official synopsis for Sony’s super-Spidey sequel:

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.
