‘The Beach Bum’ Poster Is a Neon-Colored Stoner’s Paradise; New Trailer Drops Tomorrow

     January 22, 2019

the-beach-bum-sliceFlying under the radar on a freshly-blown cloud of bong smoke is the upcoming comedy The Beach Bum, which stars Matthew McConaughey in a rejected Thor wig as a “rebellious rogue” named Moondog. Neon released a new poster for the film—along with the promise of a new trailer on January 23—and it is 1000% the exact poster you’d both want and expect for a movie that stars Matthew McConaughey in a rejected Thor wig as a “rebellious rogue” named Moondog. Look at those Lisa Frank-ass dolphins, my word.

The Beach Bum comes from the mind of Harmony Korine, who channeled James Franco‘s entire James Franco-ness into one of film’s most memorable sleazeballs in 2012’s Spring Breakers. The writer/director seems to be taking a similar route for this new neon-lit odyssey-by-the-ocean, harnessing that laidback pre-McConaissance charm into something spectacular. Because of course, Snoop Dogg co-stars as a man named Lingerie, as does Martin Lawrence as the incredibly-named Captain Wack. Zac Efron is also on-board, with the poster confirming the fact that he will be hitting a vape while wearing a Japanese Hachimaki.

The first trailer for The Beach Bum was certainly something, with McConaughey’s wardrobe alternating between on-brand Hawaiian tees, flowy pink robes, and, uh, nothing, and I personally cannot wait to see more footage for whatever it is that Korine has sparked up here.

Check out the poster below. The Beach Bum—which also stars Jonah Hill, Isla Fisher, and Jimmy Buffett—hits theaters on March 22 after making its world premiere at the 2019 SXSW Film Festival.

Here is the official logline for The Beach Bum:

THE BEACH BUM follows the hilarious misadventures of Moondog (Matthew McConaughey), a rebellious rogue who always lives life by his own rules. Co-starring Snoop Dog, Zac Efron, and Isla Fisher, THE BEACH BUM is a refreshingly original and subversive new comedy from director Harmony Korine (Kids, Spring Breakers).
