While I wasn’t too impressed with the Super Bowl spot for M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender, Yahoo! Movies has now debuted a full trailer for the film and it serves as a good reminder that while Shyamalan has seemingly lost all his talent for writing, he’s quite talented with his visuals.  Rather than crumble under the weight of a his first blockbuster feature, it looks like Shyamalan has created a rather impressive world in both the visual effects, the costuming, and set design.  Whether there’s a good script underneath all of this remains to be seen, although he has at least some guidance with this being his first adaptation rather than a new story from his dried-up mind grapes.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer along with the official synopsis.  The Last Airbender hits theaters on July 2nd.

For those just tuning in, here’s the official synopsis for The Last Airbender:

Air, Water, Earth, Fire. Four nations tied by destiny when the Fire Nation launches a brutal war against the others. A century has passed with no hope in sight to change the path of this destruction. Caught between combat and courage, Aang (Noah Ringer) discovers he is the lone Avatar with the power to manipulate all four elements. Aang teams with Katara (Nicola Peltz), a Waterbender, and her brother, Sokka (Jackson Rathbone), to restore balance to their war-torn world.

Based on the hugely successful Nickelodeon animated TV series, the live-action feature film “The Last Airbender” is the opening chapter in Aang’s struggle to survive.

I thought it was pretty good, in spite of the race bending.

I will always give M night a shot. He still has 3 films in my list of personal faves. His last 3, not so much. I wasn't too jazzed when I heard about this but it looks kinda cool.

I don't want to cast gloom and doom over something that has not been finished but i think we all know how its going to begin and if it is like series we'll probably know how it is going to end as well. I love the series (thought it was one of the best cartoons in the last few years) but unless this diverges from the show to bring something new then it'll be utterly formulaic and just a retread of its predecessor. Looking at the trailer it feels like every other film that stars a young protagonist (Harry Potter, Percy Jackson etc), it'll probably have great visuals (with water/air/fire/earth bending how could it not?) but i have a strange sense of apathy towards it. I hope its good but i can't summon any excitement. Yet…

I still have problems with the casting. White guy and white girl to play Katara and Soka? And Dev Patel for Zuko? Was this rascism or just the producer´s desire to get more known faces in the roles?
Plus, Ang looks too anguished in the trailer, where is his happy side?
Katara looks too squimish, she´s a tough gal!
I´m not hopefull for this one.

You know I like The Sixth Sense and The Village, I hated Signs and The Happening and I haven't seen any of the others.

This trailer has some amazing visuals, I don't care about the voice-over (huge cliche, and it reminds me of Dragonballs voice-over which was lame). The dialogue doesn't seem totally terrible though whereas in The Happening trailer I could recognize how fail the acting was just from the trailer.

    Damn that looks good!
