I love you Niolas Cage.  The sometimes great but always amusing actor has signed on to star in the perfectly entitled 3D action revenge film, “Drive Angry”.  The film will be directed by Patrick Lussier, who earlier this year gave us the 3D extravaganza, “My Bloody Valentine 3D”, and will center on a man driven by rage who is chasing the people who killed his daughter and kidnapped her baby.  I don’t know about you but I can already see the internet memes and .gifs in my mind.  To read more about what we might expect you can click on the jump.

nicolas_cage_image__2_.jpgTHR also tells us that the vendetta/rescue in “Drive Angry” will “spin out of control as the chase gets bloodier by the mile, leaving bodies strewn along the highway”.  I imagine that this is where we will be treated to a ton of 3D gimmicks as we see Nicolas Cage blasting fools with his shotgun while on a motorcycle.  Ok, so I’m not sure if the film will feature a motorcycle riding, shotgun blasting Nick Cage, but, in my mind this is the only way this film can go with a title like “Drive Angry”.  If it does go this route, then I am there opening day.  I think no matter what we will be getting a ridiculous film that will be made even more ridiculous with its use of 3D so why not just go all out?

I know that Nicolas Cage gets a lot of hate nowadays and I know that he is one of the most inconsistent actors out there, but I’m a fan.  I like it that we have an actor right now who is willing to go so out there that he makes unwatchable films become insanely fun.  I like to believe that he’s in on the joke and that he’s winking at us underneath his “hair”, but I really have no idea what the man is thinking and if he really does “get it”.  I guess I find the mystery of modern day Nick Cage just as fun and odd as his performances.

“Drive Angry” will begin production in April in Louisiana.  Meanwhile, you can next see Nicolas Cage in Werner Herzog’s pretty amazing looking, “”Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans”, hopefully sometime soon once the film gets a distributor.

  1. Shit – you’re right! I don’t know why I didn’t notice that. I feel ashamed now. I’ll let the bosses know

    Thanks.

  3. Ebert mentioned awhile back that he didn’t understand why people were so down on Nic these days. I know the guy has got to eat but he has chosen so many crap vehicles that he has exhausted all good will as far as I’m concerned. And why is he still clinging to the illusion of hair? Check out his earliest work – it has been obvious he was losing it from the beginning. Nic – if you are reading this, do yourself a favor: grow a spine, shave your dome and go on Letterman (like Bruce did years ago). America will still love (like? accept?) you.
