For the past three decades, Nicolas Cage has given us, the movie-going public, all that he has to offer. Do you think he dresses up like a bear and throws devastating hay-makers at unsuspecting women to satisfy some sick urge of his own? No, he does it for us! He gives and he gives and he gives and all we do is take. But twelve years ago, we took too much. And at long last, someone will shed light on the harrowing tale of how somebody stole Nic’s ultra-rare Action Comics #1, the 1938 comic that introduced the world to Superman.

In Action No. 1, Reno! 911 creators Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant have scribed a comedic (and obviously fictionalized) account of the robbery, which has been picked up by Lionsgate. Lennon and Garant wrote the script with the hope that Cage would be willing to play himself, but that likely won’t happen. Hit the jump for more.

action-no-1-nicolas-cage-supermanAs HeatVision reports, the story of a group of nerds attempting to steal Cage’s Action Comics #1 is actually being made. Per Comics Alliance, the Action #1 in question is thought to be one of only 100 surviving copies. After being stolen from Cage in 2000, it was eventually discovered in a storage locker in April, 2011 and sold for a record $2.16 million at auction (Cage paid $150k for it back in 1997).

I’ve got many a fond recollection of lazing about in my friend’s dorm, watching Reno! 911 when I should have been, you know, learning stuff. So, this one’s already got my attention. But, my God, if Nicolas Cage (who I genuinely adore and respect) were to somehow make his way into the cast, I’d be first in line at the multiplex. I wonder if Cage still has his old Superman costume laying around…
