Nicolas Cage has signed on to star in the thriller Black Butterfly. The $13 million English-language production is based off the French TV series Papillon noir. Per THR, “Cage will play the reclusive author Paul, who befriends a drifter, with fatal consequences.” Is it possible to feel any sympathy for Paul? Is there a way for the audience to think Paul is not unforgivably stupid? Everyone knows that drifters pack their bindles full of fatal consequences.
Brian Goodman (What Doesn’t Kill You) will direct and German actress Veronica Ferres will co-star. Cage can currently be seen in the maligned and mostly-buried home invasion flick Trespass. He’ll next be seen in theaters in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
