It's been almost fifteen years since Face/Off, and Nicolas Cage and John Travolta are looking at not one but two indie thrillers where they can compete to chew the most scenery.  Vulture reports that the actors may re-team on Shrapnel, which is about "a former Bosnian soldier who seeks vengeance against the American who badly wounded him by disguising a deadly war game as a friendly backwoods hunting trip."  I wonder if Cage and Travolta are arguing over who gets to play the Bosnian and put on the most atrocious accent.Evan Dougherty's script for Shrapnel was on the 2008 Black List (a list of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood) and had John McTiernan attached to direct.  However, last October McTiernan was thrown in jail for perjury in the Anthony Pellicano Hollywood wiretap case.  He's currently out on bail and appealing the sentence.  Filming on Shrapnel is set to begin in June, but Vulture doesn't mention if McTiernan is still attached.Hit the jump to learn about the other project Cage and Travolta are considering. The Face/Off duo are also circling City Island writer-director Raymond De Felitta's adaptation of his father's novel Sea Trial.  The book is about a couple that takes a pleasant cruise which slowly starts to go very wrong.  Here's the synopsis [via Biblio.com]:

It was the perfect ending to a perfect affair - fourteen blissful days and nights alone on the sultry blue Caribbean. In the pleasant, tactful company of Captain McCracken and his wife, the two lovers began their cruise. But slowly the pleasure began to change. Chores were assigned. Meals started to get smaller. There was something very wrong on board the 'Penny Dreadful'. Something without form and without fear. Something evil.

You can argue in the comments section about which actor does a better job of playing something without form and without fear.  I vote Cage.

Sea Trial is still in the process of collecting financing.  In the meantime, De Felitta is attached to direct the indie comedy Married and Cheating starring Marisa Tomei and Sarah Jessica Parker.
