The Flatliners remake may have found a director.  Back in August of 2011, Sony Pictures tapped Source Code scribe Ben Ripley to pen the screenplay for a remake of Joel Schumacher’s 1990 thriller Flatliners, and now Bloody Disgusting reports that The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo director Niels Arden Oplev is attached to take the helm.  The original flick stars a very young Kevin Bacon, Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland, Oliver Platt, and Billy Baldwin and tells the story of a group of medical students who willingly induce clinical death in order to find out if there’s anything on the other side.

Oplev makes his English-language directing debut next month with the thriller Dead Man Down starring Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace, and he’ll also be helming the pilot for CBS’ TV series adaptation of the Stephen King novel Under the Dome.  Hit the jump to watch the trailer for Schumacher’s Flatliners.

There is NO need for this remake. this might bring in $13-18 million at the box office opening weekend then fade away like almost every remake does

  • James

You mentioned all the actors except for the main one, Kiefer Sutherland?

I always see the comments about Hollywood not being able to come up with something original and usually I disagree with that comment. Sometimes I like the remakes. But, enough is enough. I have started to see the light now. When will the madness stop? Hollywood, PLEASE come up with something original.

100% agree with all comments, why do this??? Leave the originals alone!!!! Come up with new ideas already! The only person who should be able to do remakes, just horror genre to speak, is rob zombie…..

Parody might be the highest form of a compliment, but perhaps the lowest form of talent.
