Open Road Films has released a new Nightcrawler poster along with a new TV spot.  Jake Gyllenhaal plays Lou Bloom, a sociopath who plunges into the depths of filming gruesome footage for local news, and begins pushing the limits between covering the news and making it.  It's interesting to see how Open Road Films is trying to market the film, and this TV spot pushes more along the lines of an action picture by showing car chases and using blurbs like "full throttle", and it's not really that kind of movie.  There's definitely action, but the real power of Nightcrawler is how it manages to get under your skin and set your nerves on edge.  I guess that's harder to show in thirty seconds.

Here’s the official synopsis for Nightcrawler:

NIGHTCRAWLER is a pulse-pounding thriller set in the nocturnal underbelly of contemporary Los Angeles. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Lou Bloom, a driven young man desperate for work who discovers the high-speed world of L.A. crime journalism. Finding a group of freelance camera crews who film crashes, fires, murder and other mayhem, Lou muscles into the cut-throat, dangerous realm of nightcrawling — where each police siren wail equals a possible windfall and victims are converted into dollars and cents. Aided by Rene Russo as Nina, a veteran of the blood-sport that is local TV news, Lou blurs the line between observer and participant to become the star of his own story.
