Just when you thought it was safe to go to sleep, New Line Cinema has announced plans to revive their horror franchise A Nightmare on Elm Street with an all-new film. So those of you who were disappointed by the 2010 reboot starring Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger may be pleased to hear that it’s being ignored entirely in favor of a completely fresh take. David Leslie Johnson, who was recently in the news as having scripted Warner Bros. Dungeons & Dragons adaptation, has been tapped to pen the script.

As the Tracking Board reports, New Line Cinema is going back to the drawing board on this reboot. The studio owes quite a bit to writer-director Wes Craven’s original 1984 horror film since it was their first commercial success after a number of box office failures. It launched a series that would total nine films, a TV series, plus novels and comic books; the new remake will mark the franchise’s 10th film.

While no plot details are currently available, you can bet that Freddy and his knife-fingered glove will be back, along with his signature sweater and fedora. But much like horror films of years passed, Nightmare is not alone in getting an up-to-date reboot. Dimension’s Halloween Returns, directed by Marcus Dunstan, is due out next year; David Bruckner directs Platinum Dunes’ Friday the 13th sequel which is scripted by Nick Antosca and also due in 2016; and Lionsgate’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel titled Leatherface is already cast and on track for a 2016 release.

Hey, all you horror aficionados out there, how do you feel about all these remakes, and in particular the A Nightmare on Elm Street one? Let us know in the comments below.
