Darren Aronofsky’s NOAH Casts Cain and Abel

Director Darren Aronofsky has cast the Biblical brothers Cain and Abel in his epic feature, Noah.  Little known Icelandic actors Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson and Arnar Dan will star as the sons of Adam and Eve.  Better known is the story of Cain and Abel, with the former being the first human born and the latter being the first human murdered (by his own brother no less).  The duo appears well before Noah (Russell Crowe) is even born, but flashbacks with a younger Noah (Dakota Goyo) may feature the brothers, as suggested by The Playlist.  Also starring Emma Watson, Jennifer Connelly, Logan Lerman, Douglas Booth, Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, Kevin Durand and Martin Csokas, Noah debuts on March 28th, 2014.

  1. I’m not a super religious person, but I went to church a lot as a kid and I know that Cain and Abel being there doesn’t really any make sense. At all. Does this mean that this movie is just going to be an adventure/disaster movie that just happens to have characters with biblical names? Doesn’t fill me with any sort of confidence or desire to see this film…

  2. I think they are taking some creative liberties and involving more into the narrative than just the Noah story. Anyone familiar with both stories (which you mention not being, which makes your confusion understandable) should realize that while they don’t overlap, they definitely tie-in. They have a cause/effect relationship. What began with Cain and Able (sin) grew to the catalyst for Noah’s story.

  3. Oh, so the little kid from Real Steel will play a young Noah. That should be…interesting. “PEOPLE’S CHAMPION, SOUND PRETTY GOOD TO ME!”
