Darren Aronofsky Tweets Photo of Under Construction Ark from NOAH

     July 11, 2012

What is Noah without his ark?  A guy who drowns, that’s who.  Writer-director Darren Aronofsky has tweeted a set photo of the fabled ark from his upcoming biblical epic, Noah.  In his tweet, Aronofsky says “I dreamt about this since I was 13. And now it’s a reality. Genesis 6:14″  And for those that don’t know their bible (you’re going to Hell if you don’t, BTW), Genesis 6:14 is “So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out.”  No word yet if this is actual cypress wood.  We also don’t know if Aronofsky is building his arc to the biblical specification of “300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high,” but the thing is definitely massive.

Hit the jump to check out the image and a recap about what we know about the movie thus far.  Noah is slated to open on March 28, 2014.

For those just tuning in, Russell Crowe is set to play the eponymous biblical figure who has to gather two of every animal before God drowns the world.  Jennifer Connolly is attached to play Noah’s wife, Naamah, Logan Lerman and Douglas Booth will play Noah’s sons, Emma Watson will play a young woman who falls for Booth’s character, Ray Winstone will play the villain, and Anthony Hopkins will play Methuselah.  This won’t be a straightforward take on the story, as Drew McWheeny over at HitFix has details on Aronofsky’s ambitious vision:

Noah (Russell Crowe) hears the voice of God warning him that the world cannot be allowed to survive in the corrupted, ruined form Noah sees around him.  It is a violent, freaky, scary world that Aronofsky and his co-writer Ari Handel have created.  I’m particularly excited to see how Aronofsky brings to life the Watchers, eleven-foot-tall fallen angels with six arms and no wings.  They have a major presence in the script, and they’re fascinating.  Early on, when Noah needs to go see his grandfather, he has to move through the homeland of the Watchers, something that is not easy to do.

    Nice fairy tale, Darren.

I wonder if he’ll show them rounding up two of every insect and microbe.

    • sccitylhh

Don’t forget about the fish, woodpeckers and termites….

I think he can leave the mosquitoes off, however.

    • Mr_smart man

Yeah, like that is more hard to believe than that they came to be there by accident, creating themselves over time.

  • Yes!

    I loved Evan Almighty!

Man,I thought these worthless Bible stories were long dead.I hope it doesn’t end up being too preachy.

    • fresh

Only thing worthless is you. Well you will be very soon, better realize God is real.

  • Tim

Wooom yeah let’s make fun of God. How clever. God is real.

    • Sanjuro

Well… I guess ‘he’ had his people plagiarize the Epic of Gilgamesh for ‘him’, guess ‘he’ was the original George Lucas?

      Tim. Grow up.

  • Slugger

“Russell Crowe fightin’ round the world”

  • Zachrifice

Even tho production has already started, I’m sure Aronofsky will pull his typical move these days of getting people excited for a project then backing out like he did with Robocop and the second Wolverine.

    • sense 11

and the Batman reboot before Nolan took over

  • fresh

I don’t you people should play with God like you are, of question what he has done! He’s the reason you are here. God bless you all! Have some respect for your creator

    • Sadchild

God must be a deadbeat dad. All this creating, but never showing for any of my birthday parties.

Not religious myself, but taking lazy potshots at religion is about as honourable as the mudslinging Goldberg does on a daily basis. A true keyboard warrior.
