First 2 Trailers for Darren Aronofsky’s NOAH Starring Russell Crowe

Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for director Darren Aronofsky’s Biblical epic Noah, and it looks exactly like a Darren Aronofsky version of the Great Flood story.  The visuals here are quite stunning, and the production’s decision to shoot in Iceland looks to be more than warranted.  How refreshing it is to see a film with real backgrounds and landscapes as opposed to CG-created everything (ahem Maleficent).  What I’m most excited about, though, is the human element, as Aronofsky has a knack for telling wonderfully intimate stories that are extremely character-focused.  Combined with the expansive visuals of the Great Flood, this has the makings to be quite the event film.  Whatever quarrels are going on about the current edit of the feature, I sincerely hope Aronofsky’s signature style isn’t lost in the final cut.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film stars Russell Crowe, Emma Watson, Jennifer Connelly, Logan Lerman, Ray Winstone, Douglas Booth, Kevin Durand, Martin Csokas, Mark Margolis, and Anthony HopkinsNoah opens on March 28, 2014. [Update: Paramount has also released an entirely different international trailer, which is also included after the jump.]

Here’s the official logline for Noah:

Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe stars as Noah, a man chosen by God for a great task before an apocalyptic flood destroys the world.

    Jor-El Begins !!!!

  • Colin

Looks fantastic. Been looking forward to this one!

    • Terrence Malick

The last thing the world needs is more religious propaganda. I DESPISED Gravity for the vomit-inducing “nobody ever taught me to pray” line as if an Astronaut would be stupid enough to believe in Christianity. If you believe in this shit you’re legally a simpleton and should be sterilized in the interest of human progress.

      • The Flobbit

Get a grip! All Colin said was that he looked forward to this movie. NOTHING about religion in the comment. Oh, and for your information, most of the early astronauts, Neil Armstrong included, were either Christians or believed in a higher power.

You imply that people who believe in a higher power are stupid. You just called over 50 Nobel Prize winners, Isaac Newton, Galileo, Copernicus, Faraday, Pasteur, Albert Einstein, and some of the world’s greatest thinkers…were STUPID. Let’s see how that holds up.

      • Terrence Malick

Yep, they chose to act stupid in light of reason so, ergo, stupid is as stupid does.

      • The Flobbit

The only person acting stupid here is you. I’d dignify you with a response, but I know reason and logic don’t work on idiots. Do you feel like a big boy, you piggish troll?

      • Terrence Malick

Also: believing in Christianity and believing that there is a higher power is not the same thing. But good job arguing against a point I didn’t make. DUMBASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • The Flobbit

Ooh, put that together all on your own, did ya? You must feel so proud of yourself. I’m officially done with you.

      • The Flobbit

Oh, and your “legally a simpleton” line is the type of modern misuse of language that immediately denotes significant lack of reason, logic, and thinking skills in the writer.

      • Chris Embury

Your wasting your breath. People are entitled to their own opinion. There are those who want to see the film for its religious merits, people who want to see their favorites actor/actress/director, and those who may want to watch it to see a famous fable. The “Terrence Malick” you are responding to is none of these. Instead he is what you can refer to as a “Party pooper”.

      • Terrence Malick

Awwww, sorry I made fun of the 2000 year old children’s storybook you use as a guide to all of your moral and ethical decisions in life. SPOILER ALERT: it’s a load of horseshit.

      • Dustin Philipson

How ignorant, then, to use as your pseudonym the name of a director who is well know for lacing his films with deep Christian symbolism. You are a sad confused ignoramus Mr. “Malick”

      • http://thenonessentials.blogspot.com/ Sean Chandler

You must be really pleasant at dinner parties.

      • Terrence Malick

I am alot of fun at parties because I believe in tolerating all people (except religious ones) and not condoning institutionalized homophobia and sexism. HATE FILLED BIGOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • http://thenonessentials.blogspot.com/ Sean Chandler

        WHOA!!! That escalated real fast!

  • sense11

Russell Crowe is so fucking awesome, Aronofsky too

  • sense11

Russell Crowe is so fucking awesome, Aronofsky too

  • Greyson

I feel they are hiding anything Aronofsky added that they thought would scare people off….

    • sense11

most definitely, Hes been fighting with the studio over the theatrical cut, i hope he wins

    • Batzombie

Yeah, there is definitely some weird shit in the movie that you don’t see here. Note the lack of the six-armed angels we keep hearing about.

    • Batzombie

Yeah, there is definitely some weird shit in the movie that you don’t see here. Note the lack of the six-armed angels we keep hearing about.

      • The Flobbit

Advance screenings show that the Nephilim will be called “Watchers”, and they will be covered in stone after they fell from the heavens. So they will be giant, stone-covered, six-armed angels. They will also help Noah build the ark.

      • Merlin235

Other than helping Noah build the arc, the rest of that could be valid extrapolation of Biblical text. Which to me is quite exciting. They even had the Fountains of the Deep erupting, which I thought they’d gloss over entirely.

      • The Flobbit

I don’t see how they could gloss over the Fountains of the Deep as these are a very scientifically-accurate and iconic part of the Flood legend (which by the way, is a legend shared by ALL cultures – from Egyptians to Eskimos.)

*I’M* rather surprised they showed animals going into the ark. That’s always been played for laughs or cuteness in other adaptations. Aronofsky is going for something grand and terrifying.

      • Merlin235

True. It’ll be interesting to see how he handles the size of the ark ad the sheer number of animals. Interestingly it doesn’t look like he went the route of having the animals be young/infantile.

      • The Flobbit

Apparently, they’ll solve that by putting all the animals in hibernation by burning a special herb. A solution so simple and elegant you just want to slap your head. Duh!

    • lordjim

i really hope you are right because this looks like the usual boring blockbuster and not the work of an artist.

    • The Flobbit

Undoubtedly. They’re hiding a lot of the more religious sides of the story, and a bunch of strange sh-t: Noah trying to kill Ila’s unborn baby, a forest growing within seconds, Noah putting the animals to sleep by burning herbs… Not to mention the “dark”, “humorless”, “gritty” tone. All very Aronofsky stuff – and it’s being hidden, and this trailer is cut to make it look like a big-budget smart blockbuster.

It’s a good trailer, but ask yourself: which is more important? More people turning up at Noah expecting something different (more money), but not getting what they were expecting, or fewer people turning up, but they knew what to expect (satisfaction)?

Money or satisfaction? Box office gross or Tomatometer?

  • MITNG

Just white people in the Genesis…again?

    • Nick

Shut the hell up!… Tired of you retards bringing up color as if THAT isn’t racist. Get a life.. Unless of course that’s not too white of a thing to do. Piece of shit

      • MITNG

No…think about it dummy. It doesn’t make sense.

      • wESh

It makes perfect sense, I mean, You really want to be in the Genesis don’t You, that’s the whole point

      • King of Collider

Non-white people complaining about being under-representated is racist? DURRRR. Typical redneck American tomfoolery. It must be hard having all the privilege in the world and having people complain about your privilege.

      • Nick

I’m sorry, you know my situation? You know I have all the privilege in the world? Here’s an idea… How about you stop assuming other people aren’t born with certain privileges and maybe you can account for your own failures more if you realize most successful people earned their way. As long as we’re making assumptions, that is. Honestly it’s just pathetic to cling to such obviously irrelevant shit just to have an excuse to to not be responsible for your life or your actions.

      • MITNG

Again Nick, what part of “I never said black people”, don’t you get?

      • King of Collider

And you seem like the kind of dipshit who complains about affirmative action as if once it was retired you’d go right from your job shovelling shit to a plum CEO position. LULZ ;)
You’re afforded more privilege than most just because you’re white. Educate yourself instead of embarrassing yourself.

      • Nick

Hahaha yes, good I’m glad you did your research to discover that I’m white (I’m not) and also that I complain about affirmative action (I don’t). So you can suck a dick and remember to bend at the knees with the shit shoveling… I’ll be paying for your healthcare so I wanna make sure you stay healthy :)

      • King of Collider

I’m Canadian dipshit, my health care is bought and paid for (PS it’s fabulous and our economy is better than Americas Lulz ;) ). If you’re not white you’re sure spewing the same redneck, hillbilly racism that crackers do so you must have been brainwashed at some point (we call that the “uncle Tom” effect). Or, more probably, you’re a white guy who fell asleep beside his desk lamp, got a tan, and now think you can pontificate on race relations.

      • Nick

Ah, so I a cracker and you’re consistently making remarks about white people. I’m not brainwashed… I would think it’s more likely you are to buy into the media bullshit that anything Black deserves sympathy regardless of the circumstance. Be Canadian and proud my friend lol seems like something great to hang your cap on, eh? Regarding my desk lamp… Yes it’s a really nice one. When you move out of your moms basement to impregnate a woman with more kids than you can afford or care to take care of and feed off your countries system maybe you can save up for a nice lamp too.

      • King of Collider

What a cracker redneck racist turkey honkey. You’ve played your hand too much Mr. Grand Wizard. You’ve exposed yourself as a hate-filled bigot.

      • Nick

Cracker redneck, though I’m not white is way more racist than anything I said you dumb shit. I’ve had fun with you reverse racists. Enjoy crying for pity and sympathy for your many failures to achieve success and continuing to assume everyone else had a leg up to not be a loser like yourself. Enjoy heading nowhere with life. I make that assumption not bangs on race but the fact at you clearly believe people who achieve things had them handed to them. Fucker

      • King of Collider

I’m sure you’re a captain of enterprise. LOL! Reverse racists? Of course you’re white; you’re not fooling anyone so drop the ‘I’m not white so my patently racist sanctimonious bullshit has more validity; although, I’m secretly totally white ;)”
The sad truth: all the most successful people in the world, the richest of the rich, had shit handed to them on a silver platter from birth, except, let’s say, maybe three of them. The horseshit Romney/Ryan 2012 was feeding you is still stuck between your teeth and everything you say reeks of that shit.
        Lulz ;)

      • Nick

Still not white lol but I don’t find it insulting up that you assume I am. Clearly you’ll never be anywhere with your life. You make excuses for how the rich get rich as if it’s all undeserved and handed down. Just like you will make an excuse on the other end that because you weren’t handed something, it’s okay to be the nobody that you are. Take personal responsibility for your life and how it turns out instead of looking at other people, assuming they’re white and had the world handed to them, and saying “not fair.” You’re a leech and exactly the kind of pathetic person who keeps your race from overcoming your past. You WISH people were racist.. You want it so you can justify your anger and your lack of success in life. Sorry to break it to you but you’re the only one to blame for that. On a side note, I left my trash on the curb this morning. When will you be by to pick it up?

      • King of Collider

Spoiler Alert: I’m (mostly) white and have a high paying job. Lulz ;). I’m just not an entitled asshole who values material success above all else in life. LOL!

      • Nick

        Sure you do…

      • King of Collider

        Nice come back…oh wait.

      • My Name is Garthoum

The beauty of religion, race and ll those social division…stupid!

      • Akio Morte

I have seen homeless white guys on the street begging people for a dollar. I didn’t see “all the privilege in the world” helping them all that much. Somebody lied to you son. All white people are not privileged. Most of them has to go through the same shit everybody else does.

      • Hit by Da Real Truth

Except that a white person, in North America, automatically has an advantage. If you took a black homeless man, and the same white homeless man and put them into a job interview, the white one gets the job. RACIST HONKEY TONK TURKEY!!!!!!!!!!

      • Akio Morte

If he could get a job he wouldn’t be a hobo begging on the streets you racist idiot. So their is no way to confirm what you said. You just want white people to take responsibility for your own inadequacies.

      • King of Collider

Can people really be this ignorant and stupid? I guess so, they’re american. Lulz ;)

      • King of Collider

Can people really be this ignorant and stupid? I guess so, they’re american. Lulz ;)

      • Akio Morte

You can shove your white guilt and socialism up your ass and go hide in your igloo. Be on the lookout for your next welfare check though.

      • http://thenonessentials.blogspot.com/ Sean Chandler

        WHOA!!! That escalated fast!

      • doctor_robot

what are you, 12? this line >>>”Just white people in the Genesis…again?” flips you out that much? someone needs to take their meds.

      • Nick

No, more like the tireless need to call out the exclusion of blacks is what has me going. It’s constant and frustrating to see that complaint go on with such acceptance. I’d be considered a racists if I said “another all black movie” even if it was a movie about Africa

      • doctor_robot

but the point is that historically these biblical movies have all or almost all white casts. blue eyed white jesus? it is pretty ridiculous… i mean, come on. you don’t think it’s silly that russell crowe(who i like a lot) is playing noah? also… i don’t believe that MTING was complaining that denzel wasn’t playing noah, or saying, “where’s the black people!!” i think the point is that in reality… these people where not white. there is no way that i could take such a movie seriously. even the last temptation of christ, i was like… “seriously? harvey keitel?”

      • Murove

Man who needs television? I’ll just sit here and read. I am literally crying I am laughing so hard. By the way slavery gets shit done= pyramids. FYI my family is Jewish. We also had fascist leaders try to wipe us out through genocide about 70+ years ago and we are still going strong. My race is AWESOME!!!

    • Nick

Shut the hell up!… Tired of you retards bringing up color as if THAT isn’t racist. Get a life.. Unless of course that’s not too white of a thing to do. Piece of shit

    • MITNG

So am I right in assuming that we should be all “white”?

      • Nick

You’re just so damn stupid. You’re the only race that goes around say “hey!! I want some! How come I don’t have some!” What does it matter if it’s all ‘white’ people in the movie? Do you even care to realize that there’s probably other races and ethnicities you’re categorizing as white just because you’re ignorant and clearly racist yourself. You do realize racism is treating people differently due to race right? It’s okay though, I see why you’re bitter.. It’s not like we have any black leaders or anything out there so obviously the world is still out to get you.

      • MITNG

You nailed it Nick. I’m racist cause I don’t believe this is accurate history. I’ll be your Huckleberry.

      • CC

        It’s not accurate history??? NOOOOOOO!!!

Is Lord of the Rings accurate history?

      • http://thenonessentials.blogspot.com/ Sean Chandler

Lord of the Rings doesn’t tie the location of it’s events to the MIDDLE EAST. It ties it’s events to MIDDLE EARTH. People in Middle Earth look however Tolkien wanted them to. People in the Middle East look like other people in the Middle East. As it turns out, people in the Middle East historically did not look like white Europeans.

      • doctor_robot

        stupid analogy.

      • Um, Sure

“You do realize racism is treating people differently due to race right?”

No, that’s prejudice. Or bigotry. Racism is the systematic disenfranchising of people based on color by a system in power. “Ist” refers to a power structure that keeps people down based on a ruling majority.

You need to learn what the terms mean before you start lecturing people on what they are or are not.

      • Nick

Racism is viewing a race as superior than other so calm yourself fool. Also, apparently it’s not having black people in a movie about Noah’s arc.

      • MITNG

        I never said black people…dumbass!

      • Nick

No you just specified white people.. You sure you know everyone race in the film? You have an extensive list of every extra cast in the firm? You’re clearly doubling back to go against your original point because you’re wrong.

      • Nerdgasm

Nick is one of the biggest dumbasses that comes to site. He can’t see beyond his nose and the world would be better if he was just aborted. Honestly dude how is ” You have an extensive list of every extra cast” a valid argument. You sound fucking retarded. The main cast is obviously not of Turkish or Middle Eastern look. And I think it’s Sunwukong86… How much of an idiot are you? White is a mutated gene meaning that it most likely was not among the first color of skins in the world but showed up much later. ONTOP OF THAT Noah would be considered a “Antediluvian” Not sure if that’s the right spelling… Those were the people from the middle east during that time but he was not a Jew but most likely was of middle eastern or Turkish look and descent but good job Sunwu…. If you were trying to look like an uneducated prickwad yah did good son. Yah did good.

      • Tully

You just killed it there nice.

      • Nick

Thanks, son. Lol I know by now what a tool you are so I’m going to leave you be

      • doctor_robot

(You’re the only race that goes around say “hey!! I want some! How come I don’t have some!”) – now, that’s racist.

    • sunwukong86

I hate to break it to you but Noah was most likely caucasian.

      • MITNG

So God only destroyed some of the world? Those areas with people of color in them were spared.

      • Dan

Maybe Noah looked like a zebra and was white and black! haha After Noah man kind dispersed around the globe and each people adapted to their environment. Not to be racist but all you black folks settled in Africa and were probably white looking, over thousands of years your skin adapted and changed color to deal with the rays of the sun. So face it, we are built to adapt, most white people come from the middle east and Europe, which are cold or temperate so no need for our skin to defend against the sun. Deal with it, Noah was somewhere around that region.

      • MITNG

You didn’t have to say “not to be racist” cause what you stated wasn’t a racist remark, but if you are racist, than that’s a whole other story. Again, this isn’t me just throwing this out there to stir shit up, but I am looking for legitimacy and so far your answer is the closest that has come to it. Still doesn’t explain the incest, the Tower of Babel (cause that seemed to be the moment in the Bible when the language thing came into play, but then they would’ve already had to be of different skin color at that point, because it was then they were dispersed to the four corners of the world) but whatever right?

      • Dan

Regarding the Tower of Babel, the bible relates that they were one people, one nation, one race, one language and one culture. So it is my opinion and nothing more, that it was after this event that groups of people moved away from the site and settled in different places. The bible doesn’t say how long ago this was so that’s up in the air for debate. There is no need for diversity in this kinds of films because no one knows what they looked like so fuck it, whether they are white black yellow or red it will still be an amazing film.

      • MITNG

It actually does matter. This isn’t Lord of the Rings.

      • MITNG

100 Million dollars and the exclusion of people of color was the artistic license they decide not to take. Fuck that!

      • Dan

Don’t be butt hurt cause your people ain’t in it. Maybe one day when you are a filmmaker you can make your own black Noah.

      • MITNG

Dan your an idiot. That remark was uncalled for. That’s not what this is about. This is about some sort of representation and accuracy. I’ve grown up staring at a blue eyed Jesus, a blue eyed Noah, a blue eyed Mary and Joseph. Fuck that remark. I have worshiped the white mans version of God all my fucking life! This isn’t what the Bible is!

      • CC

No. It isn’t. The Bible is Jewish. Written by Jews, about Jews. They didn’t have blue eyes and weren’t white. They were olive skinned Middle-Easterners. But they weren’t black. Sorry.

      • Tully
      • CC

It’s a Jewish story about Jews written by Jews. And it’s a fairy tale. Sorry you were excluded.

      • mitng

You? Who are you referring too dumbass? Black people? I never said anything about that dumbass! I said people of color idiot!

      • EndlessChris

lol, they don’t get it mitng. I applaud you for going as long as you did. Certain people lack the ability to see the world objectively, nothing we can do about it.

      • mitng

        They don’t even look Jewish.

      • Old Soldier

Look at the bright side, all those non-people of color that will drown. Millions!
        Payback is a bitch.

      • MITNG

        lol. Ahem…that’s not cool man.

      • Yarp

coming Christmas 2015 – Madea builds an Arc ?

      • MITNG

I will still watch it, but come on.

• Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

I think you missed the science class, dude. “Black folks”, as you call them, didn’t settle in Africa. They were in Africa since the beginning and then, the same “black folks” spread to the rest of the world, where the environment and other factors, along with thousands of years of adaptation, gave birth to “white folks”. Africa is cradle of mankind, dude, blacks were the first humans. That being said, @168b9c0dffb83dd2ec3a07bfca9c097b:disqus I think you are overreacting a bit. I mean, look at the setting, do you think that is a good place for black people to live, at the time? Considering this is only a movie based on a myth (just like Hercules or Clash of the Titans), I don’t even see why to start an argument about race in the first place!

      • Dan

So you are another idiot that believes he comes from a monkey, great.

      • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

Oh, you believe you descend from Adam and Eve, the world is 5000 years old and that everything that proves the Earth is older is work of the Devil and that there is an invisible being watching all you do? Yeah, I’m the idiot here.

      • Dan

Yes I believe we come from Adam and Eve, however I’m not a fanatical man who believes the earth is 5000 years old that is just complete ignorance on anyone. Each has their interpretation of the bible and what is written in it. Genesis begins with ‘In the beginning God created the heaven and earth’ there is a period after this, which could be interpreted as ‘and millions of years went by’. So no I don’t believe the earth is thousands of years old. But I believe that there is a designer, a creator, who gives you the free will to believe in him or that you come from a monkey. To think that there isn’t a higher being is ones ignorance to accept that we are not the masters of the universe.

      • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

What does it have the fact that there is or there isn’t a higher being anything to do with us being the masters of the universe? It’s obvious this universe is so big, that would be ignorant and arrogant not to think there is not life elsewhere.

PS: I can’t really see how TWO people could have populated the entire planet without incest involved.

      • The Flobbit

Until very recently (150 years or so), incest and cousin to cousin marriage was considered socially normal and even encouraged – it was better for people to marry within their near family than out.

        Just a comment.

      • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

Better seen, maybe. But the genetic consecuences are really not encouraging.

      • MITNG

Agreed. Besides, hasn’t it always been the mixing of blood that has given us the best chances at survival as humans?

      • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

        Amen, brother!

      • The Flobbit

The point is that incest worked perfectly fine for a pretty long time. Besides, people lived longer back then (insert: IF you believe the Bible was true clause for political correctness), so they married later on in life too. They also had more kids. And THOSE kids had more kids.

So by the time you’re 300, you had a lot more kids and inlaws and people to choose from – and THEY also had more choice. If it started out as incest, it didn’t last very long.

      • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

Worked not that fine, actually. History will tell you about the mute, retarded (can’t think of another english word for that, don’t kill me) and mishaped descendents of the kings in the Middle Ages. And well, if we take for granted that a human could live 900 years back then, well, it’s still a bit gross, lol

      • The Flobbit

Oh absolutely. Inbreeding is dangerous, and it causes hereditary diseases like haemophilia and worse. My point being, the human race goes on, does it not?

      • ʝoe ßloggs

There is something called grace – which God allows with no consequence – for a purpose.

      • The Flobbit

        I’m a Christian, but…PARDON? What…?

      • ʝoe ßloggs

Incest or inbreeding pre-Leviticus was not deemed a sin as God did not command against it. God’s special grace could be extended for a time to allow for population/re-population without fear of hereditary consequence. It can also be argued that the early genetic pool was relatively pure hence escaping malformations due to inbreeding.

      • The Flobbit

        I guess you’re right.

      • Murove

HEY HEY!! In 300 years everyone will be beige. So don’t sweat it. So says the almighty Southpark.

      • william muniz

The calendar used by the jews in that time was shorter than the one we use now. That is why the Bible tells of people being 300 years old.

      • The Flobbit

Yes, but the people in Pre-Flood times were NOT Jews. Jews came much later with Isaac and Jacob.

And the Bible tells of people living to be *969* years old (which makes sense if you consider that the earth had a ring of water around it that fell during the flood, one that protected the earth from the UV rays of the Sun – the primary cause of aging. That and a higher oxygen level in the atmosphere meant that people could have lived a LOT longer than they can in this polluted world of ours…)

Third, no matter how long or short their calendar is, people still lived for hundreds of years.

      • Um, Sure

There have been families in some cultures that have marriages between cousins. Not immediate family members. There is far too many negative genetic problems associated with sibling or parent-offspring coupling. Your 150-years ago statement is false.

        Just a comment.

      • The Flobbit

My point is, incest may have began the world, but it did not have to last very long at all. And there are many primitive cultures that marry within families. YES, there are genetic issues, but it was not socially taboo as it is now.

      • MITNG

So was homosexuality, by the way. Which is cool, I’m just saying. The whole Sodom Gommorah thing was a disastrous misinterpretation.

      • The Flobbit

Homosexuality was common in armies and among the government among Greco-Roman times, but I guess it was considered frivolous and unnecessary for common folk. I mean, why marry or love someone if they can’t bear you children to carry on your name?

Oh, and Sodom and Gomorrah would be considered evil by anyone’s standards. It was a filthy cesspit of murder, cheating, crime, corruption, and lawlessness. Good riddance I say…

      • Nerdgasm

This is not accurate. Cousins yes but humans in most cultures have known effects of incest for a lot longer than 150 years. But cousins of a kind, depending on how far away from relations, yes have married and still do.

      • The Flobbit

Nerdgasm, I stated that UNTIL roughly 150 years ago, incest was not considered taboo like it is now. The royal families of Europe ALL interbred. Consider for instance King George of England, Kaiser Wilhelm of Prussia, and Czar Nicholas II of Russia who were ALL cousins and shared the same grandmother. This was in the early 1900′s.

      • Nerdgasm

Yes but to say socially normal is a different thing. That stuff in royalty was done in so to keep control same as the Ancient Egyptians who actually married father to daughter, mother to son in some cases but there is even proof out there that state that this was not a norm even in THAT time and it was considered a taboo thing just by nature. So it doesn’t hold up an argument of being “Socially Normal.” I know of where incest happened. All i am saying is as humans we have known for longer than 150 years of it’s drawbacks and it was not WIDELY practiced as with you saying “Socially Normal” That wasn’t the case.

      • The Flobbit

It may have been considered taboo for some, and it may not have been practiced by everyone, but incest was relatively common, and in royal families it was practically rampant. Socially normal? Maybe ot for everyone. A well known fact of life? Yes, of course.

I meant that in the last 150 we have gravitated more to traditional marriages and such…

      • Dan

This may sound crazy, even to me, but I would think there might have more people beside those two. I doubt God stopped with Adam and Eve. Just a thought.

      • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

So, we would basically be a petri dish.

      • Dan

        Perhaps

      • william muniz

The creation story the way it is written in the Bible is used to show how humans disobeyed God. That is why the author decides to use Adam and Eve but the truth is that God created an entire civilization.

      • William Muniz

We can’t take the creation story too literal. There are two versions of the same story in the Bible. Adam and Eve were written as a way to help the people who were reading the Bible understand the power of God. The truth of the matter is that most probably God created an entire civilization at the same time. The writer of Genesis used Adam and Eve to show how human beings disobeyed God.

      • william muniz

Just in case someone starts saying that I’m a heathen or something like that. I’m a seminarian doing my master in Divinity.

      • Gojiro

        Daughter-wives. Boom chicka wow-wow!

Then there was my favorite part in the bible where Lots daughters get him drunk and have sex with their father, Lot. They have children together. But for the same behavior angry grumpy Yahweh destroyed two cities – that’s messed up.

      • Nerdgasm

To call someone an idiot because they have a different belief makes you an asshole. Do you not believe in Evolution at all? Cause there is already proof that there have been different stages of man and what we are now is not what we use to be.

      • doctor_robot

        you weren’t designed very well.

      • Um, Sure

The Internet is even more stupid today than usual.

      • Dan

And the funny part is that a preacher’s kid believes in evolution. What would your daddy think?!

      • MITNG

      • Dan

      • Liderc

For the record, I don’t believe man came from ape.

      • MITNG

It’s not about race Diego. I’m not trying to start an argument, but I just wanted to throw that question out there. The world was wiped clean, fresh start. Noah and his peeps, “people” the world again, where did I come from? You see it’s already bad enough that I can only trace my personal genealogy back to the owners of my great great great grand parents, then we got this movie. You see white folks have the luxury of traceable lineage that most don’t even take advantage of. There just seems to be more questions than answers in this trailer. It’s like Charlton Heston as Moses or Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra the shit never ends! That’s all I’m saying.

      • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

Well, not to answer for Hollywood sins but, the way I see it, it’s a fault from the source material. I can be wrong, but when the Bible was written I doubt there were a lot of black people know to the writers (sorry, I don’t believe the Bible was written by God) and if it were, doubt not that there would be racism, for they were considered inferiors (they were slaves basically).

      • MITNG

Doesn’t mean we, the people of 2013, have to subscribe to this idiocy anymore. We have access to hundred of theologians and scholars who know better. Weren’t any of them on the set that day or involved in the creation of this script?

      • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

Obviously not but that would have meant that Noah was black (not brown skinned, but black!), indeed; the location for this movie should have been some sort of place between Middle East or Central or South Africa. I have no problem with that but let’s face it, there is a lot of people who can’t seem to accept that Jesus (if he existed as such) would have been brown skinned, theologist included (I might be wrong, though). Point is, there is no historical accuracy to respect here, so, whatever, Hollywood would say.

      • Liderc

the bible is fake, so who cares? Black people originated in Africa, as they were most likely the first humans. So we all originated from your “family.” So be proud, your race was the first, and we all spread from Africa and lost pigment in our skin to become different shades of brown and finally into white.

      • Liderc

      • MITNG

I don’t and I’m a preachers son, but I refuse to believe that “in the beginning” there were nothing but white people. Especially considering The Mountains of Ararrat (supposed Ark resting place) is still in the middle east and the Garden of Eden is theoretically positioned in Northern Africa. The ark didn’t go very far…where do a Anglo Saxons come into play anywhere in the Bible?

      • Dan

Mount Ararat is in Turkey, have you seen a black Turkish person? The Garden of Eden is not ‘theoretically’ positioned in Northern Africa, it positioned by the black sea where the Tigres and Euphrates rivers are. If you are a preachers son you definitely don’t read the bible. Once again, no one knows where Noah was settled anyway, but most likely somewhere in Syria or Lebanon.

      • MITNG

Still not white people in those areas the last time I checked either. So I think I am still right and I never said I was a theologian fucker!

      • Dan

Yeah but they aren’t black so go cry somewhere else about you people not being included in epics like this which don’t need anyone going na’mean and sagging their robes like gangstas wannabes. Go fuck yourself motherfucker and go watch Black Nativity or some black shit made for you.

Sorry to break it to you BROsive, but your point is going no where. Biblical movies will always be white dominated, not cuz its narrow minded, but thats just how the story and the race of the characters are known. What if a legendary black figure was changed to a white man? Using the race card gets old man, get a new hobby

I agree with your point on this in regards to the bible’s representation of race, the public’s conception of the story is definitely skewed. I didn’t know the region, but it does sound suspect.

It would be good to see someone acknowledge this when the movie comes out or at least have it discussed somewhere, but I understand your point about Genesis now.

Evolutionarily, do you not think that people are a physical product of the parts of the world they originate from? Meaning that people who ended up in Africa became a functional product of that area.

      • Kevin

At 1:05 there are a bunch of people walking towards the Ark. Are you saying you can tell that they are all caucasian?

      • Brian Parker

Just to chime in real quick: Based on Biblical president, and creationist belief, Noah and his family are direct descendants of Adam and Eve through Noah’s father, Methuselah. This means that they came from original man – in fact all of them did. They were neither white (Caucasian) or black, but were in fact a combination of all ethnicites. Just like a copy of an original is not exactly like the original, all current ethic groups are regionalized adaptations derive from the original stock, since all the tribes of man split to the four corners of the world after the fall of the Tower of Babel (read Genesis.) So, to say that this movie is not racial correct is silly, because we can only guess what original man looked like exactly, just like we can only guess what color skin dinosaurs had (you can be Christian and still believe in dinosaurs and prehistory.) That being said, diversifying the cast would have made it FEEL more accurate, but I know they just cast the best actors they could get for the parts. And yes, I’m African-American.

      • MITNG

So God only destroyed some of the world? Those areas with people of color in them were spared.

I hate to break it to you but Noah was most likely caucasian.

      • Tully

You’re only hurting the argument if you assume Dan and others are rednecks. It’s self-defeating.

    • http://mattedscreen.blogspot.com/ TheMattedScreen

in the original comic, most of the people were fairly nondescript when it came to race, everyone was a sort of middle brown color(at least it looked to me that way) so I hate to imagine they Angloed everyone just to get it made. People are having a hard time accepting the animals don’t look like traditional creatures without getting bent out of shape.

      • http://mattedscreen.blogspot.com/ TheMattedScreen

Also, the Comic had trolls… so yeah…

    • Ron Allen

ACCORDING to the Bible, all humans descended from Noah and his wife, his three sons and their wives, and before that from Adam and Eve (Genesis 1–11). But today we have many ‘races’, with what seem to be greatly differing features; the most obvious of these is skin color. It stands to reason that Everyone during this time would have been similar in appearance. May have been brown, black or….gasp even white. There is no way to know for certain. when the film’s star was cast…in this case Crowe who happens to be white, it then became necessary to cast the other parts appropriately as well. If Morgan Freeman were cast the opposite would be true. Noah and his family were probably “mid-brown” like most of the worlds population today. After Babel and when the Human race was scattered was most likely when “diversity” happened as a result of environmental pressure.

      • MITNG

        “gasp even white”

I never mentioned the word black btw. Everyone keeps saying that shit and it’s bothering me. They think just because I look black, I must be black. My mother is from Vietnam and my father is Black American, my grandmother was half Cherokee. This is not a black thing. My wife is white.

Ron you make good points. Just venting.

      • Ron Allen

My point is they may have actually been black (or Asian for that matter)….the real point is there is only one race. And you and the majority of everyone else in the world have been convinced otherwise by race baiters on both sides of the argument.

      • MITNG

Ron…don’t lump me in with the rest. I said you made some good points. I’m not disagreeing with you.

      • Tully

Don’t give him credit, Ron is writing in bad faith. Saying you’ve been brainwashed by race baiters is gross.

      • wESh

You are all arguing about “something something” that is all based on the biggest bestseller of all time, a scifi/fantasy LIE that we all call bible today, btw I don’t understand why it has to be written with B at the beginning.

Calm down everyone, You are arguing about something that never happened, it’s a movie, it’s a stupid book, get over it

      • Tully

        Well aren’t you superiour .

    • Old Soldier

      Then what color were they?

    • kallen

Back then people were ALOT more racist than they are now, so it would make no sense for them to accept a black person in a all white tribe. And if they included an all black tribe, it would be confusing.

      • MITNG

Who said black? I didn’t, and if you are assuming because I am dark in color, that I am all black and that was my meaning, you’re a fucktard. I’m half Black,Asian and Cherokee. People of color doesn’t always mean black, if it’s coming out the mouth of someone you think is black. Stop generalizing idiot!

      • Tully

How many times you have to say this I don’t know.

    • partysub

what part of the world is this set in again?

Go kill yourself you racist cunt. Go tell Tyler Perry to make Noah with all black cast. You will not hear anybody complaining. If you were truly race neutral you wouldn’t have cared what the race of the people in the movie was. No, you are just another “victim” who wants to play the race card to fullest extent as long it benefits you and. The biggest racist is you Asshole.

What I am most looking forward in this is the inclusion of sections from the book of Enoch, can’t wait to see how they depict the ‘Sons of God or fallen angels’. Beside that this and Exodus should bring back the audience interest in biblical epic stories. Plus the stellar cast and director won’t hurt.

    • The Flobbit

Despite your religious views, you cannot argue that the Book of Enoch is simultaneously beautiful, terrifying, and rich in history and cultural legend. There are some incredible things in that book.

      • Dan

I in fact would not argue the Book of Enoch, I’ve read it and found it incredibly descriptive and insightful. I am a religious open minded person who is okay with none canonical scripture. But for those Christians who read this book it can twist many things for them.

      • The Flobbit

It is a very strange book, no doubt, and it’s historical accuracy is debatable at best. If it is truthful then it is the first piece of written language of mankind. If not, it is an elaborate and entertaining hoax.

      • Dan

I wouldn’t call it a hoax per say, because it is so detailed as to names and practices of each ‘watcher’ and how they taught mankind the secrets of technology and agriculture, to having offspring with humans who became the giant Nephilim. It sounds a little crazy but truly in the realm of possibilities. I believe, and that’s just me, that the real reason God flooded the earth and destroyed everything in it was because of this abominations in his eyes plus mankind’s violent behavior. Sounds familiar? I hope God doesn’t decide to destroy the earth again judging the path we are taking. Haha

      • ʝoe ßloggs

“I hope God doesn’t decide to destroy the earth again judging the path we are taking.”

Uhm, that’s already covered in the books of Daniel and Revelations.

      • The Flobbit

God swore to never destroy the Earth again with water. So rest easy there.

And I don’t think it’s a hoax, but rather a collection of myths, stories, legends, and folklore from that time. Now, with all legends, there is truth and there is myth. Enoch almost certainly contains both, and probably a bit more of the first.

One of the most chilling parts of the Book of Enoch is the mention of half-man, half-demon offspring between the Nephilim and human women – giants, mutants, and other hideous stuff. If TBOE is true, God certainly destroyed the earth for reason.

    • Merlin235

The Nephilim aren’t exclusively from Enoch. There are accepted Biblical references to them as well.

      • Dan

Correct, which corroborates the story even more.

    • ʝoe ßloggs

It would certainly enhance the film as a spectacle for sure. Not sure if featuring the Nephilim would require some backstory. Would definitely add more context to why God decided to wipe mankind from the face of the earth.

Haha, what a silly comment. I award you no points. ;)

      • ʝoe ßloggs

Like your inflated self-esteem is a figment of your imagination then?

    • Um, Sure

Yeah, same book says divorce is a sin too. And wearing mixed fabric clothing, and eating shellfish, and working on the Sabbath.

Not stopping plenty of people from breaking those rules huh?

I hope this movie shows everyone that they are going to hell.

      • Northern Star

Those regulations that you and your fellow travellers always bring up were specifically aimed at the Israelites prior to the Messiah… they were not and are not applied to Gentiles, and since the Messiah, do not apply to the Israelites any more!

Know what you’re talking about before you talk about it…

      • Um, Sure

That Messiah that you and your fellow travelers always bring up never once mentioned homosexuality, so you’re right. Once He came along, all that “bad” stuff before no longer applied.

Christians are bad to cherry pick which parts of the Bible apply to whomever and which ones don’t. Sounds like you need to apply a little more reading comprehension to the texts you’re so fond of defending.

(by the way, divorce… still a big no-no to the Big J. He talked tons about it. Read up.)

      • Northern Star

The regulations given to Israel by God became null and void after the Messiah, matters of morality never changed and haven’t changed to this day, so you’re wrong there again. I and most of the Christians I know don’t cherrypick the Bible, we believe it ALL from cover to cover…

Again, know what you’re talking about BEFORE you talk about it…

      • ʝoe ßloggs

“I hope this movie shows everyone that they are going to hell.”

They did. Except for everyone on the Ark.

      • Akio Morte

Mixed fabric clothing law was for Levites (Jewish tribe where the priests came from). Not for everyone. You and your elitist friends can not mention that one from here on out.

Where noah is played by Denzel Washington rather than Russel Crowe?

      • Pk

Umm..no. I want the unrated one which shows Darren true vision

  • cineast4

Hmm. Looks as great as it ought to be in places but can’t help but get a feeling that these trailers are treading a line of an uncomfortable compromise made between Aronofsky’s vision and the studio, i hope its just the trailers…

  • IndescribableDescriptor

Actually looks good. Hollywood has really seemed to struggle to bring mythic stories to the big screen. I can’t even think of a good one from the last decade. Hope this changes that.

  • YodaRocks

Russel Crowe and Jennifer Connolly make the best on-screen husband-wife pair. Loved their chemistry in A Beautiful Mind and looking forward for this.

  • Noomba

Man my religious friends are going to eat this up like freshly sliced bread.

  • Joseph M

I feel like I just watched the whole film. Noah gets a message. Builds an ark. Family are worried. Bad guys not happy about it and try to get on-board. Bad guys get washed away and Noah hits the high seas. The End.

    • meagan

      or is it?

  • wolverqueen

just more religious bullshit to entertain the dull minds of the heathen…. Crow only does this stupid affected voice, Thor’s dad given the ‘gravity’ slot…. shit he must be bored with thee gigs by now…. Watson felt guilty after the bling ring and decided to go ‘poor’…. looks mind numbingly stupid…. just the like the original story…

I’m looking forward to this film for so many reasons-

    1) I’m an Aronofsky fan
    2) I love the idea of a modern epic biblical film being made. Ridley Scott’s got a Moses film coming down the pike as well
    3) I absolutely LOVE Jennifer Connelly!!!!

As to the ‘race’ issue- yeah it would’ve been great to see the characters depicted more acurately per the region but let’s face it, this is a fantasy film! They’re speaking English! Two of each animal on the planet is going to be inside that craft!!?! And a rain-caused flood is going to cover the world!!?!! So you see, scientific accuracy was most important in making this film.

    mmmmm Jennifer Connelly!!!

This is a movie about a guy who talked to god, built an ark out of wood, put 2 of EVERY ANIMAL IN THE WORLD on it, and survived as the whole world was covered in water.

And people are arguing about racial equality, because thats the most nonsensical part of this whole thing…

    • MITNG

There are 2.18 billion Christians of all ages around the world,
representing nearly a third of the estimated 2010 global population of
      6.9 billion.Show some fucking respect!

      • partysub

his point is that it’s a mythological tale, not anything grounded in reality.

you’re getting really worked up over 2 minutes of footage, assuming that all races have been excluded when the movie is maybe 3 hours long.

i’d be really distracted and kind of patronized if things were shoehorned into a movie to satisfy hyperbolic complaints like this.

      • ʝoe ßloggs

With all due respect, to me, it is not a “mythological tale”. You may wish to be more mindful of people who don’t consider the life of Noah to be a fairy-tale like you.

      • fsthnd

With all due respect if you are not aware this is a mythological fairy tale then you are a fucking moron who needs to take your head out of the sand. It is a story, and I as a rational human being have no time for your 2 year old mentality. lol sucker

      • ʝoe ßloggs

Thank you for invalidating your own comment and view with vulgarity and coarseness.

For the record, it is you who is infantile.

      • Um, Sure

Or at the very least understand the historical context from which the story came from. The flood myth was a common “Best of” tale from many bronze age civilizations. And the characters and details of the story changed countless times. Only detail they all have in common… a flood. We can debate the “truth” of whether or not there was an actual global flood or just a regional one, but the concept of putting 2 of each kind of animal on earth into a small boat so they can all repopulate the planet is the part that is the most ridiculous. Anyone defending the story as a historical account displays the utmost ignorance and lack of education about how biology works (not to mention the physics of putting every animal type on earth in a tiny boat).

Arguing with these idiots is futile. It’s like asking a monkey to understand Algebra.

        HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Btbcc12859

This is a first a bible movie turned into a Action film. Russel only has one voice and never hides it.

  • Foolitics

I bet Noah took back the poetry book and left George Clooney behind to drown…
