A new clip from Lars Von Trier‘s Nymphomaniac has been released, and up until this point this point they’ve been surprisingly tame.  However, last money we got some orgasmic character posters, and today we’ve got a clip that is definitely not safe for work.  The two-part, five-hour film stars Charlotte Gainsbourg as Joe, a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac who recounts her life story to Seligman (Stellan Skarsgard), an old, charming bachelor who finds Joe beaten up in an alley.  The artistry of this new clip is using Bach and dividing the frame into thirds, but the content contains nudity, sex, and cunnilingus.  As the YouTube description points out, “A chorale prelude by Bach: Three voices each with its own character, but in complete harmony. In other words:
POLYPHONY.”

Hit the jump to check out the NSFW clip. The film also stars Uma Thurman, Stacy Martin, Jamie Bell, Connie Nielsen, Christian Slater, Willem Dafoe, Mia Goth, Nicolas Bro, Sophie Kennedy Clark, Jens Albinus, and Udo Kier. Nymphomaniac will be released in Denmark on Christmas Day and is heading towards a full premiere at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.

    This film looks grim.

lars von trier’s movie make me uncontrollably laugh out loud. i mean i know they are not comedies but they are to me. that fox in antichrist– please don’t get me started. looking for some gut busting giggles with this one too

    • Kenneth

I’m sure he would be pleased to hear that. He’s very much aware of the comedy in his films, even if most people aren’t.

  • victorinox126

NSFW in Europe is like like a G rating.

    • zac

      america is weird! lol

  • Jan

Looks like the perfect movie for Christmas Day, indeed.

  • The Flobbit

    How is this on Youtube?

    • Melwing

      They already removed it

I don’t understand why this movie was made. If you want to watch softcore porn, watch it. I don’t think porn and normal movies should ever mix, and as much as I like Game of Thrones, it has about 99% too much nudity and sex scenes… I don’t want to see people naked, or having sex (especially two males [cringe]), I want to be told a story. If I want that I watch porn, or go to google. So far the only sex scene in Game of Thrones I would have permitted was the first one (I think it was the first), with Jamie and Cersei, because it was vital to the story in why Jamie pushed Bran out the window. Other than that they just waste so much time with them, yeah allude to the fact that they had sex or what not, but don’t waste the extremely valuable screen time on it. There are only 10 episodes for a show with so many story plots it could have double that easily, and considerable screen time is wasted on garbage.

      Grow up, man.

      “(especially two males [cringe])”

You are so heterosexual. Nobody will ever doubt your masculinity now!

“I don’t want to see people naked”

Yes but a lot of people do. Sex is always going to be in movies and T.V., it’s one of the biggest sources of conflict. It spices things up and makes things interesting.

      • Jason Richards

You must be gay. It’s ok, man.

      • axalon

What would be wrong with that?

      • straight arrow

        Eveything….

      • doctor_robot

honestly… we i see a man act so overtly hetero, i find it very suspect. and you? your tag is “straight arrow”. hmm…

      • jasonbasa

only gay people like to watch porn? I had no clue. guess I should go get myself tested for gay.

      • straight arrow

        Yea you do that.

      • jasonbasa

it was crazy. The first thing they asked was “do you like naked women?”. I said “yes” and they diagnosed me as gay. Its like my whole world has been turned upside down.

      • straight arrow

        Thanks for the results…

      • doctor_robot

you must be an inbred homophobe.

      • Werefon

He likes some cock as well, like my wrestling teacher Bob!

      • Job 314

Almost all of Spielberg’s film never included a sex scene and look how his career turned out…GOAT

      • doctor_robot

let me guess…. violence = good / sex = bad.

      • James

I don’t have anything against gay people what so ever. I simply am straight, and watching two men have sex doesn’t sit well with me. Just as a gay male would be repulsed by a nude female (okay jk, had to). Game of Thrones simply uses sex and nudity far more than they need to just for the shock and awe factor, and the perverts who like to see that (for which there are obscene numbers). My point is allude to it, show little, but spend far more time on good story telling, and dialogue. Just because it’s on HBO they have to go to extremes that aren’t needed, it’s just sad.

      • axalon

        Again, grow up.

      • straight arrow

Dont you have a penis to rub?

      • zac

erhm sex is in the book as well as a great storytelling tool. it reveals plenty about human behavior and character developement.

      • Origami_Isopod

“and watching two men have sex doesn’t sit well with me.” As a woman who lives in a society where women’s bodies are used to sell everything and anything: Boo hoo hoo.

    • GrimReaper07

Except that sexuality is a huge part of human life. Alluding to sex doesn’t have the same impact as showing it. That impact can be used in many ways, not just for shock. Nearly every scene in Game of Thrones added something. Yeah, even that lesbian scene with Little Finger. Him coldly giving directions to the girls on how to pretend to enjoy sex was a great character moment.

    • Convoy

I think you need to get over whatever hangups you have about human sexuality. While I don’t plan on seeing this movie, it looks more like real sex then what you will find on Cinemax after 11 PM.

      • Merlin235

I think for some, they like seeing mankind reach beyond animalistic tendencies. Some people celebrate primal desires and give themselves over to it, and others celebrate the differences between mankind and the animal kingdom, and want to see those differences highlighted instead. His comment doesn’t belie hidden shame of human sexuality, rather it conveys his desire to see something else celebrated. There is nothing wrong with his comment, it’s his opinion.

      • Convoy

And there are plenty of movies out there about mankind reaching beyond our animalistic tendencies. If he wants to see something other than human sexuality celebrated, well that is not difficult to accomplish.

      • Origami_Isopod

And this kind of dichotomy, with its implicit derogation of sexuality, doesn’t breed all sorts of repression and self-loathing, nosirree.

    • i AN LEGEND

      Stop posting.

    • AManWithAKilt

      1. Why are you reviewing Game of Thrones on an article for a completely different movie?

      2. If sex makes you that uncomfortable don’t watch movies or shows with a bunch of sex in it. Game of Thrones may have lots of it but it still manages to tell a really good story. If Nymphomaniac has a good story about someone’s sexual life does the sex really matter? I defy you to find porn with sex AND a good story.

      3. Lastly, you have ten and half lines complaining about sex but no such complaint towards violence.

      • Merlin235

About your #3: not every comment has to discuss every aspect of cinema. His comment also didn’t talk about the overuse of simple plot devices, or the worst possible offense, the use of shaky cam. Does that make his comment less appropriate on a form about a movie about sex? No, I don’t think so.

      • AManWithAKilt

If the majority of his comment was about Nymphomaniac I would agree with you but other than the first line of the comment he’s talking about Game of Thrones, a show in which violence is featured heavily (much more heavily than the sex, I might add).

“I defy you to find porn with sex AND a good story.”

Shaving Ryan’s Privates had a good story.

      • straight arrow

        What a american classic…

    • doctor_robot

uh… what are you, a puritan? stop watching.

    • RiddleThemThis

I’ve always preferred the James Bond approach where the sex is implied and its not needed to be seen. The sex doesn’t ruin a movie for me, but its never improved it.

      • NICK НΛRT

god i would love to see von trier’s reactions to the stuff people are saying in this thread. i can see his smirk in my head now

      • Redemption

I agree with you. However, I have no problem with people that feel sex is important for a story. Personally, I’ve never found a movie to be better because of the sex. It may get me to watch the movie, but it doesn’t make for a better movie.

    • Origami_Isopod

“especially two males [cringe])” – Oh, noes, how dare Hollywood not cater to the het male gaze for once.

Will Lars von Trier be welcome in Cannes or only his movie?

    • conradthegreat

only his films. Lars is persona non grata with Cannes

  • Eric Johnson

    Looks like garbage.

  • Bobby S

It’s the feel-good orgasm movie of the holidays proclaims People magazine.

  • Why

As a person to whom sex and all of the trappings that come with it, including the overuse of it in entertainment to pander to certain demographics, movies like this completely baffle me. Isn’t this what straight up porn is for? I don’t get it.

    • Why

Let’s try this again…that should have said:

As a person to whom sex and all of the trappings that come with it,
including the overuse of it in entertainment to pander to certain
demographics, falls completely flat and doesn’t matter at all, movies like this completely baffle me. Isn’t this what
straight up porn is for? I don’t get it.

      • wolverqueen

have better sex… then report back

      • Why

How about trying a life that doesn’t revolve around it? Have you? It’s a lot easier. Piss off.

      • rhizomeman

Nope. Straight up porn is designed to get you hard and sell a product. I’m pretty sure Lars is up to something entirely different. Unless the juxtaposition of Baroque organ music, sex scenes (that don’t actually show genitalia), and dead animals in predators mouths get you hard – in which case, good luck:)

I’ll give this one big fat miss. Oversexed and release date Christmas…the one day of the year that’s really about family.
