A new trailer and poster have been released for Joseph Kosinski‘s sci-fi action film, Oblivion.  The story takes place on a dystopian Earth, and stars Tom Cruise as a drone repairman who holds the future of mankind in his hands after discovering a crashed spaceship.  The first trailer didn’t do much for me, but this new trailer does a much better job of laying out the plot, the conflict, and the larger world.  Now I’m intrigued, and I hope that Kosinski can deliver on the premise.

Hit the jump to check out the new trailer as well as Spanish poster.  The film also stars Olga Kurylenko, Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough, and Melissa LeoOblivion opens April 19th.

  1. This one felt more like the trailer to the 09 Star Trek. Which is a good thing. It also doesn’t have the “Inception blast” which seems to be requisite for every trailer to dramatic, but highly overused, effect.

    • The inception blast was heavily featured in this trailer. I had to turn the sound off halfway through. I’m still looking forward to this film though.

  2. Hell of a trailer. Looks like good, grown-up sci-fi like Minority Report. Love the “effective team” stuff – very creepy.

  3. It’s cool because I remember seeing this directors commercials years ago (he did some awesome Halo, Gears of War, and car commercials) and thinking he had a great style. Now he’s becoming bigger and bigger. Hope it’s good.

  4. ALWAYS with the Cruisers GIANT HEAD in the poster! We know it’s him, please do something OTHER than Jack Reacher in a silver suit!

    • Well, there was the poster that didn’t feature Tom’s face. Just the central character, small and in the foreground, looking up at the waterfall/Empire State Building. Sometimes movies have multiple posters. It’s not at all unreasonable for some of them to feature Tom front and center. Certain movie stars (for better or worse) do still drive the box office.
