Before I begin, I would like to thank every single person who attended our screening of The Princess Bride. You were an amazing crowd, and you made that screening a reality. I’m pleased to announce what we’re planning for our next screening: Mike Judge‘s Office Space. We need 58 people to sign up for the screening on October 18th at 7:30pm at The Plaza. Tickets cost $10.00. We only have 3 days to make this happen, so if you live in Atlanta, appreciate the site, and want to see a beloved film on the big screen, then click over here and sign up. Remember, you’ll only be charged if the screening happens. If not enough people sign up, then the screening won’t happen, and that would suck. I know it’s a short amount of time, but you guys made The Princess Bride a reality in less than 48 hours, and it’s going to be great seeing Office Space with a crowd.
So if you could tell your friends via word of mouth, tweeting this link, and posting it on Facebook, that would be greeeeeat. Hit the jump to check out the trailer for Office Space.

I believe I’m the only one in the entire world that doesn’t find Office Space to be the comedy gem it’s made out to be. Which is too bad because its myth is growing and I wish I found its low brow, over the top, self-aware identity appealing.

The problem for me is that The Princess Bride was shown at the Fox, a beautiful historic theater that was a wonderful venue to see the film in. There was a full house and everyone knew the lines to the film. It was an amazing community experience with an incredibly diverse audience from Toddlers to retirees. It was amazing to see how that film captured such a wide range of fans. I doubt that Office Space will draw the same amount of viewers or the diversity that we saw at The Princess Bride and for me that was half the fun of the experience.
The Plaza theater is also, quite frankly, a dump in desperate need of an overhaul. The place looks like it was deserted for decades then re-opened without any restoration. It smells musty and decayed and the seats are noisy (they squeak loudly if you shift in your chair during the film) and uncomfortable. The lobby is dingy and run-down and the concession stand is tiny, shabby and in desperate need of expansion and updating.
During the last screening I attended at The Plaza the film was spooled incorrectly in the projector and the audience spent thirty minutes waiting for them to restart the film while the host of the event proceeded to make a sorry attempt at an audience discussion that made the situation more irritating because they were talking about the film before the audience had finished watching it. Then they told everyone it would be another twenty minutes before the film would be ready to project again, so there was a mass exodus. It was the most poorly run screening I’ve ever seen.
They also said they would try and arrange another screening and never followed through. So honestly, without any major improvements to the theater or it’s management, they’re going to have to work hard to get me to go back there to see another film, especially for $10.00, and when there are so many other venues in Atlanta to see great movies like the Midtown Arts, Atlantic Station, The Tara and of course the Fox Theater. Bring Office Space to one of these and I’ll gladly attend, and I bet you’ll get that younger cult audience more excited about coming to see it too.
Sorry for the long post
