Yesterday, Steve took some shots of the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World standee/teaser poster.  Today, the official website has released a hi-res version of the poster plus a corresponding wallpaper for you desktop’s enjoyment.

Since I didn’t get a chance to comment on the poster yesterday, I’ll throw in my two cents now: I really like the tagline.  As far as the image goes, I’m not crazy about it.  I think something more along the lines of the book (and reportedly movie’s) embrace of video games (specifically 8-bit classics), would be more eye-catching.  Instead, they’re hiding Michael Cera’s face and it looks like the film is about music. But I’m not going to obsess over the poster when I enjoy obsessing over the movie so much more.  Hopefully this teaser poster is a signal that we’ll be getting a teaser trailer in the near future.

Hit the jump to check out the hi-res versions of the poster and wallpaper plus the official synopsis.  Scott Pilgrim vs. The World hits theaters on August 13th.

For those just tuning in, here’s the official plot synopsis for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World:

Meet charming and jobless Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera).  A bass guitarist for totally average garage band Sex Bob-omb, the 22-year-old has just met the girl of his dreams…literally.  The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)?  Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him.  Genre-smashing filmmaker Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) tells the amazing story of one romantic slacker’s quest to power up with love in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

Scott Pilgrim has never had a problem getting a girlfriend.  It’s getting rid of them that proves difficult.  From the girl who kicked his heart’s ass-and now is back in town-to the teenage distraction he’s trying to shake when Ramona rollerblades into his world, love hasn’t been easy.  He soon discovers, however, his new crush has the most unusual baggage of all: a nefarious league of exes controls her love life and will do whatever it takes to eliminate him as a suitor.

As Scott gets closer to Ramona, he must face an increasingly vicious rogues’ gallery from her past-from infamous skateboarders to vegan rock stars and fearsomely identical twins.  And if he hopes to win his true love, he must vanquish them all before it really is game over.

I like it. I just hope this heralds the release of a trailer soon; I'm so completely psyched for this one !

    I like it.

I love the image, like the tag. The pose is a copy of the right side title page from Book 1, so I think it's less “hide Cera's face” and more just representing the book.

Right on! The fact that it is lifted directly from the book negates the criticism that it doesn't properly represent the movie. This is actually a great teaser poster.

Also, music is just as important in the book/film as video game references, Matt. Just look at the bands mentioned in relation to the film. Sheesh.

I used to have a Rickenbacker 4003 of the exact same fireglo finish, so I like the poster only for that reason. :)

Awesome, I’ve been having trouble finding a hi res version of this picture.

I saw this movie just a few days ago. It was ridiculously awesome. Go see it if you haven’t already!
