Opening this weekend is director Olivier Megaton‘s Taken 2.  In the sequel, Liam Neeson’s character unwisely takes his family on a European vacation, only to find himself and his wife (Famke Janssen) taken hostage by the family members of the henchmen that Neeson brutally murdered in the first film.  The film also stars Maggie Grace and Rade Serbedzija. For more on the film, here’s four clips and all our previous coverage.

Last week in New York City I got to sit down with Megaton for an extended video interview.  We talked about how he came to direct the sequel, whether there were any sequences he struggled with, the running time, the first cut versus the final version, the editing process and dealing with the MPAA, future projects (which might include an adaptation of The Land of the Living), and Megaton revealed that the Taken 2 Blu-ray will include a longer cut of the film that’s unrated.  Hit the jump to watch.

i kinda agree with the mpaa thing.. its often so random what they do.. but the violence in TDK is most of the time off screen. you dont see the pencil going in the eye or stabbing gambols mouth. also there is almost never blood when there are bullet hits ( maybe even never, i cannot recall a situation and i watched that movie ALOT )..
taken 1 has on the other side this torture scene, which is really disturbing and is pg13 ..which brings me full circle to the mpaa and rolling dice

Taken 2 was just ‘meh’ when it should have been great. I actually liked the premise, but Megaton’s incomprehensibly directed fight scenes meant it is very hard to recall anything but a blur. Liam Neeson is a badass, so SHOW him being a badass. I don’t want to see 100 different cuts/edits within one fight.

I actually counted at least 10 cuts/edits for one car flipping over.

They should have brought back Pierre Morrel…

Oliver Megay it is time to get e real job because you”re not a director. you make Turkey look like Taliban and make Albanians look like Talibanians.
Your next movie should be about yourself playing with your gay partner

haha, comment above. I’m glad I watched taken 2 and then taken 1. Sounds strange but certainly enjoyed it more that way. way I see it, any more spin offs will just be a waste. Ends off just about right. No taken 3 =)
