Limited Paper: Prepare to Weep Openly Upon Realizing That You’ll Probably Never Have These THOR: THE DARK WORLD Posters by Olly Moss

     April 24, 2013

As all of you surely know by now, Marvel Studios is gearing up for a second round of films (chief among them Iron Man 3, Captain America: Winter Soldier, and Thor: The Dark World) that will pick up where Joss Whedon’s The Avengers left off.  The format’s exactly the same as it was the first time around:  each film advances the story of both the hero at its core and the overall Avengers mythology, and eventually it’ll all come together in The Avengers 2.

And it’s already started:  Iron Man 3’s on the verge of being released, and just last night Marvel revealed Thor: The Dark World’s first trailer.  The response to that preview seemed very, very positive…and we’re expecting a similar response to the quintet of Thor: The Dark World posters recently revealed by UK artist Olly Moss (even if most people probably won’t ever be able to buy one).  We’ve got ‘em after the jump, folks.

So, here’s the story:  a few years ago, Marvel Studios hired artist Paolo Rivera to create a “wrap poster” for Captain America: The First Avenger, and the experience was apparently so well-received that the studio decided to do it again when Thor: The Dark World went into production.  This time, they called upon the UK’s most legendary artist, Pokemon enthusiast, and former chimney sweep:  Olly Moss.

Unless I’m misremembering, I’m pretty sure Olly was Tweeting about these prints while visiting the set of Thor: The Dark World last year…but it wasn’t until tonight that we got our first look at ‘em.  The prints (each of which is specific to a different cast member;  included below are prints for returning stars Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Chris Hemsworth, Kat Dennings, and Tom Hiddleston) will be along shortly, but first allow me to offer the following word of warning:  these posters were created specifically for the Thor 2 cast and crew, not as part of an upcoming drop.  They are very gorgeous, indeed…but don’t go getting your heart set on obtaining one (commission rules apply, if that helps).

Everyone mentally prepared?  Good, let’s get started.  First up, Hopkins’ Odin and Hemsworth’s Thor:

And here we’ve got Hiddleston’s Loki and Elba’s Heimdall:

And finally, here’s Kat Dennings’ print…because Kat Dennings will always deserve her own row:

We imagine that Olly’s been around long enough to command quite a price-tag for commission-based work, so it’s no surprise to hear that Marvel paid through the nose for this set…it is, however, surprising to hear that the God of Thunder was willing to part with Mjolnir itself in lieu of payment.  Moss posted the following photo on his blog next to the caption, “And they paid me with a real Mjolnir!”

Read more about the situation over at Olly Moss’ blog, or stay tuned for more from Limited Paper as the week progresses.  As always, if you’re an artist or gallery with artwork you’d like to see featured on Limited Paper (or if you’re just some lucky bastard who happened to overhear a bit of poster-related gossip while standing in the bushes outside Martin Ansin’s house) we wanna hear from you!  Email Limited Paper directly at, and be sure that you’re following us on Twitter via @LimitedPaper for ongoing commentary, news updates, giveaways, and more!
