Paramount/DreamWorks Animation CinemaCon Video Blog; Covers Tom Cruise’s ONE SHOT, RISE OF THE GUARDIANS, J.J. Abrams STAR TREK 2 Hat, and More

     April 24, 2012

Last night at CinemaCon 2012, Paramount and DreamWorks Animation showed off footage from their upcoming 2012 movies including director Christopher McQuarrie‘s One Shot (starring Tom Cruise), Sacha Baron Cohen‘s The Dictator, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, Rise of the Guardians, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

In addition to the footage, if you’re a fan of J.J. Abrams Star Trek and anxiously awaiting the sequel, during a tribute to a retiring Paramount executive, Abrams was interviewed on set wearing a very cool Star Trek 2 crew hat.  While he was only on screen for a few seconds, it was clear he was on the deck of the Enterprise, the hat had a number 2 in the front, and I immediately wanted to own one.  Hit the jump for more.

Shortly after watching the footage, I recorded a video blog with Peter from Slashfilm which you can watch below.  We both agreed the footage of One Shot looked great.  During the presentation, Paramount showed three scenes from the film.  One featured Cruise saying some nasty stuff to a woman and then kicking the shit out of a few people.  Another was an awesome car chase that felt gritty and real.  It also featured a classic car getting pummeled.  While I didn’t know that much about the Jack Reacher book series, after seeing the footage, I might have to pick up the books.

Anyway, here’s the video blog.  Look for a lot more of these all week.  If you missed the one we recorded yesterday for G.I. Joe: Retaliation, click here.

The Reacher series of books is fantastic and I’m a big fan of Tom Cruise “the actor”, but I still can’t see him in this part. Reacher’s size and brute strength are one of his defining characteristics. The books mention many times that he is a slow runner, and we all know how Cruise loves to sprint. Hopefully they’ll address this by giving him a past injury to slow him down. That said, I’ll wait until I’m in the theatre watching it to reserve final judgement. Hope it’s great.

another big TC fan here for a long time. I haven’t read the books so I can not judge on certain things but regardless, I wouldn’t judge before seeing the movie. I respect Brian’s willingness to give this a chance!

might have to pick up the books myself if they are as good as you say :))
