A new international trailer has been released for Nicolas Winding Refn’s thriller Only God Forgives.  The film stars Ryan Gosling as a drug smuggler in Bangkok who is forced by his mother (Kristin Scott Thomas) to avenge the death of his brother.  Like Refn’s other films, it looks like it has an intensity that’s only made more compelling by the slightly off-kilter, violent world the character inhabit.  This new international trailer contains some new footage, but nothing that looks like it’s going to spoil the picture.  My anticipation for the flick only grows.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Vithaya PansringarmOnly God Forgives opens in the U.S. on July 19th and in the U.K. on August 2nd.

Here’s the official synopsis for Only God Forgives:

Julian (Ryan Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna (Kristin Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly.
