Julian (Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna (Kristen Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. This movie was so much better than what critics led me to believe.

First time I saw it I didn’t care for it much either, but upon thinking about it and viewing it more it was actually far better. I bet 30 years from now people are going to look back and say it’s a masterpiece.

      • GrimReaper07

Yeah I was surprised by how much hate there is for the film and how many people didn’t get what Refn was going for. He’s even described the movie as a voyeuristic acid trip with a very simple story.

i think we are used to have the story in dialogues
but this movie let scenes do the talking
        which is NWR stamp

one of those movies ahead of i’ts time
