You never know what kind of Oscars you’re going to get. Is it going to be the “The Oscars are fun and let’s have a night with all your favorite celebrities in one room?” or “The Oscars are the most important thing in the history of the world?” Judging by the first two TV spots and poster for the 88th Academy Awards, ABC is going with the latter.

Yes, there’s Chris Rock doing a LeBron James-style chalk move, but even that is part of the hype. It says the Oscars are on par with any athletic competition. You don’t have Rock making jokes at the expense of the pomposity of the event or that rich and famous people are giving each other awards. When Rock has hosted in the past, he’s always taken the room to task, so I’m wondering if he’ll continue to be brutally honest and funny.

Check out the Oscars TV spots and posters below, and come back tomorrow for Adam’s predictions for the nominees. The nominees will be announced Thursday, and the Oscars will air on February 28th on ABC.
