In what easily had to be one of the most painful, unfunny Oscar ceremonies in recent memory, The King’s Speech finally reached the end of its inevitable march to Best Picture.  It was the first Best Picture winner to win less than five Oscars (it won four, including Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay). [Correction: Crash, which won Best Picture in 2006, only won 3 Oscars]  Does that make it more or less unworthy of the Best Picture crown?  I don’t know.  I don’t care.  I’m drained after live-blogging the awful show and 50 minutes of terrible pre-show.

Hit the jump for the full list of winners.

  1. I actually kind of liked it, some of it. I think it’s due to how adorable Ann is and I just like James Franco, it had it’s moments it’s always hard to convey humor into a ceremony like this. Hmn

  2. The ceremony itself was incredibly dull. It kept referencing things that weren’t relevant to this year’s cinema. I like Matt was going “WTF” when Anne and James jumped into the Dolorean in the intro segment. I don’t know what the thought process was there. There were no jokes, Franco looked completely stoned in pre-show interviews and at the beginning of the show, and the only funny parts were due to spontaneous swearing, the lack of subtitles when Kurt Russel was speaking, and the demented things happening on stage like Celine Dion singing during the In Memoriam segment. Thank God though no one hatched out of an egg. The show was boring, dull, and some of the winners didn’t deserve their awards. I was rooting for Banksy, Zimmer, and Steinfeld.

PS. Why were there kids singing “Over the Rainbow” at the end? It was cute… but WTF?

PS.2. Thanks Academy for not crediting “The Gregory Brothers”.

  3. Would you mind listing the actual winner’s names? They deserve the recognition after all- their movies didn’t win the awards, they did.

  4. Dont forget the winner for worst Oscar host of all time… James Franco! Congratulations! No need to thank anyone just get out and never come back.

Seriously though, Anne Hathaway wasn’t great either, but at least she’s got enough looks and charm to carry her through, and she was actually trying. James Franco was just a total wet blanket through the already miserable proceedings.

  5. i never got why must they tell jokes at these things. just announce the winners. No matter how you put it or who you put on it’s always going to be corny. Their are maybe 1 or 2 exceptions. but you can’t have those every single year

  6. As far as the actual awards go, I still think Amy Adams had the best female performance in The Fighter and deserved the award more than Melissa Leo (not that she was bad, I just thought Adams did a better job and had the more difficult part).

I’m just pleased The Social Network didn’t win Best Picture. Screw that movie.

  7. Uh Matt, ever heard of No Country for Old Men, The Departed, Million Dollar Baby, A Beautiful Mind, The Godfather, Casablanca (just to name a few)? All those movies won best picture and less than 5 Oscars. Get your facts straight next time.

  8. I like it. the only think i disagree with the academy is the best score for TSN,… c’mon i didnt noted that thing,… i mean is not memorable and remarkable.
I thought Hans Zimmer was a biggest winner of The Best Score at Academy Awards,.. but he only won at 1995 for The Lion King. C’mon he deserved to win for Inception.

doesn anyone has that video they passed before they announced the best film…

  9. I am happy with the awards I guess, except for best original screenplay. What the heck? Nolan spent a doznen plus years tweaking and writing it. I mean, The King’s Speech was fantastic but c’mon man. Very happy that Natlalie got best actress. I love James Franco, but Jesus Christ, that was brutal. I think he was baked. Never really cared for Hathaway, or her fiendish attempts to get laughs. Would have liked to see True Grit win something, but oh well. Worst Oscars ever (host-wise). So-so Oscars everything else-wise.

    • *dozen* *Natalie*. Also, dont give me that Scrooge Mcduck BS. As if Nolan was reading a SCROOGE MCDUCK COMIC and said “Oh herp derp this sounds amazing for a film, hurr durr”

  10. Nolan is awesome, but Inception is far from a great film. Its nomination for best picture was both laughable embarassing.

Mark my words, time will not treat this film kindly.
