Way back in the days before Jar Jar Binks, Neo or Tyler Durden, the Academy Awards were held on Monday nights. Then, in 1999, the biggest night on the Hollywood calendar shifted to Sundays. Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter, if the National Football League expands their current 16 game schedule to 18 games, the event will move back to Mondays.
The extra two games, which the NFL owners want but players don’t, are still up for debate. If they are added though, it wouldn’t be until the 2012-2013 season at which point the NFL season would be two weeks longer. And since most NFL games are on Sundays, the Oscars would move to avoid a primetime bottleneck for their highly rated event.
