Casting is a year round event, and today we have three new casting details to provide. Director Lee Daniels (Precious) has picked up David Oyelowo (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) for his film The Paperboy, while Lee Pace will join Steven Spielberg’s period drama Lincoln. Not to be outdone is Cody Horn, who will join End of Watch with the writer of Training Day, David Ayer, at the helm. Daniels has made quite a few casting changes, with actors dropping in and out. However, it seems this may be the final trio of male actors for the film before production begins. As for Lincoln, everything is fitting in place for a nice film, with Daniel-Day Lewis in the role of Lincoln. For more on each of these films and the actors just cast, hit the jump.

the-paperboy-book-cover-imageThe Paperboy focuses on the story of two brothers who have gone vastly separate paths but find themselves teaming up for an investigation into a small-town murder in Florida. According to Deadline, McConaughey will play one of the brothers, Jack James, and Oyelowo will play his brother’s partner, Yardley Acheman. They will be investigating death-row inmate John Cusack. The film is based on the 1995 Pete Dexter novel of the same name. Oyelowo was originally in line to play Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Daniels’ Selma, but the film stalled despite having Hugh Jackman, Liam Neeson, and Robert De Niro attached.

Here’s a synopsis of Pete Dexter’s The Paperboy :

“Moat County, Fla., is located where the St. John’s River flows north-a geographical rarity and, in literature, a signal that we’ve entered the strange and violent world of National Book Award-winner Dexter (Paris Trout). Narrator Jack James is the son of the Moat County Tribune’s editor and publisher. While Jack’s older brother, Ward, reports for the Miami Times, Jack has settled for a job delivering papers for the Tribune. But when Ward and his partner, evil dandy Yardley Acheman, come to Moat County to investigate the four-year-old murder of the local sheriff, Jack assists them in the inquiry. After a vicious beating by two sailors lands Ward in the intensive care unit, Yardley finishes the story without Ward and Jack, fabricating evidence to do so. Accompanying his traumatized brother Ward back to Miami, Jack takes a job as a copyboy at the Times. It isn’t long, however, before Yardley’s wrongdoing comes to light, generating more trouble for the Jameses [Amazon].”

As for Lincoln, Spielberg has been lining up a nice cast with an eye on a fall shoot in Virginia. So far the period pic focusing on the titular U.S. President played by Daniel-Day Lewis will star Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Robert Todd Lincoln, Tommy Lee Jones as Thaddeus Stevens, David Strathairn as Secretary of State William Seward, and Walton Goggins as congressman Wells A. Hutchins. Now Deadline reports that Lee Pace (Twilight: Breaking Dawn) will play “opportunistic New York City mayor Fernando Wood, a prominent early supporter of the Confederate cause.”

Last but not least is End of Watch, an impressive sounding independent film written and directed by David Ayers. The film focuses on two seasoned partners (Gyllenhaal and Peña) in the LAPD. Gyllenhaal shaved his head for the role based on early set photos and the film has an impressive female cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter(6), Cody Horn (Rescue Me) just joined the cast and will play a policewoman partnered with America Ferrera while Anna Kendrick has an unspecified romantic angle as well. Natalie Martinez (Death Race) was going to have a romantic angle as well, but it’s unclear if she is still attached at this time. Steve recently sat down with Peña at Comic-Con and he talked about his ride-along in prep for the role in which someone got shot.
