The first official image from Pacific Rim showed off Idris Elba, and now we have a look at co-stars Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi. The film centers on giant robots known as “Jaegers” fighting off giant monsters called “Kaiju”. Hunnam and Kikuchi play a washed-up pilot and untested trainee, respectively. The duo must use a seemingly obsolete Jaeger to stand as mankind’s last hope against the Kaiju. As you can see, Hunnam and Kikuchi are wearing the same flight suits as Elba’s character, but I have no idea what’s going on with the codpiece on Hunnam’s outfit. I guess if a giant monster hits you in the balls, you want to be well protected.

Here’s the official synopsis for Pacific Rim:
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

this movie is going to be sick.
The plotline sounds a lot like Evangelion to me…
It sounds like Evangelion to EVERYONE, which is why someone always mentions it in every post about this movie lol.
That’s fine by me, the real Evangelion movie that was supposed to be “fastracked” back in 2003 clearly isn’t happening, so I’ll gladly take something similar to it.
Sounds like the BASIS for most anime show featuring gigantic robots.
Evangelion is that, plus a few twists.
Sounds a lot more like the 2 main characters from Blue Submarine No. 6
this is eva, no doubt.
Guillermo Del Toro will do a great job bringing this to the screen, and kudos for the fighting robot concept.
I’m really waiting for a MechWarrior movie with a pseudo-realistic military take on the content. We’ll see.
The above picture reminds me so much of the 1998 “Lost in Space” movie.
CRAAAAAP…
Looks like the same old stuff in ever sci-fi movie. At least evoke the Toho/ Tsuburaya style.
I’m interested in seeing what Charlie Day is doing in the movie.
It’s del Toro, so I’m confident I’ll like it. I can’t wait to see how intricate he gets with the high tech gadgetry.
Instead of awkward Japanese sensibilities we get awkward Del Toro. Just once I wish Michael Bay would do a giant robot movie.
I guess you never heard of “Transformers” right?
I guess you never heard of “satire”, right?
Why does this picture look like a concept drawing? Even Charlie Hunnam’s head looks like it was drawn. Not impressive at all.
He bangs the asian chick after getting ghost drift
check out the “Kaiju” on THAT guy
This also obviously received a lot of influence from Robotech back in the 80′s. Always thought that would make for a much better live action film than Transformers. This movie will be close enough though.
I guess you never heard of \"satire\", right?
