Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim is rapidly becoming my most-anticipated film of the year, and if their marketing scheme continues to be this enticing, I don't see that changing any time soon.  Not only do we have new character posters of stars Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi to share with you today, but we have the first look at sample pages from the graphic novel, Pacific Rim: Tales from Year Zero, which was written by screenwriter Travis Beacham.  If that weren't enough, Warner Bros. has provided fans with an online Jaeger designer for use in the upcoming training sessions at the film's viral website.  You can design up to four Jaegers and save/share your creation in place of the Jaegers seen in the official artwork.  I don't often geek out, but when I do, it's over Pacific Rim!  Hit the jump to check it all out.

First up, here are the new character posters for Pacific Rim via the film's Facebook page:

And here's the first look at the sample pages from the graphic novel, Pacific Rim: Tales from Year Zero (via Legendary):

Also, here's the synopsis for Pacific Rim: Tales from Year Zero:

Hitting stores June 5, PACIFIC RIM: TALES FROM YEAR ZERO serves as a prequel to the highly-anticipated motion picture -- Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures Pacific Rim.  Chronicling the very first time Earth is menaced by incredible monsters known as Kaiju, these inhuman beasts rise from the ocean depths and threaten to extinguish all mankind! Witness the race to develop massive robot fighting machines called Jaegers, each one controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. This action-packed book features many of the key characters from the film as we follow them in their early careers. Written by Pacific Rim screenwriter himself, Travis Beacham, and with del Toro's hands-on supervision, this volume is beautifully penciled by Sean Chen, Yvel Guichet, Pericles Junior, Chris Batista and Geoff Shaw; inks by Steve Bird, Mark McKenna, Pericles Junior and Matt Banning.

And finally, what I think is possibly the coolest bit of marketing I've ever seen for a film, you can build and design your very own Jaeger (or four!) to use in an upcoming virtual training session.  Use the site's Jaeger designer and be sure to save your creation (you can even include your nationality!) and share it with folks on Twitter and Facebook.  The "Save" option hasn't quite worked for me just yet, but hopefully that'll be worked out.  Here are some examples:

Just messing around with the design briefly gave me some sort of rusted Arctic Jaeger.  I'm sure you can do better!  Be sure to share your designs when you've finished and get ready for the Jaeger pilot training sessions that are sure to come!

Here’s the official synopsis for Pacific Rim:

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end.  To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.  But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju.  On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past.  Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
