CBC News posted a video report that marvels at how a $150 million Hollywood movie transformed Toronto into a “Japanese disaster zone.” The production directed by Guillermo del Toro is referred to as Silent Seas and Still Seas in the report, but we know it better as Pacific Rim. We don’t see any filming in the video, but it is neat to see the detail of the set design, from the various signage right down to the plastic cherry blossoms tied into the trees. Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Willem Dafoe, Charlie Day, Rob Kazinsky, Max Martini, Diego Klattenhoff, and Clifton Collins Jr. star in the movie that pits humans (and their robots) against monsters. is Idris the star of this film? or is it Charlie?
From everything I’ve heard Charlie Day is suppose to be the lead male character (Newt Gotlieb) while Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi is the lead female actress (Mako Mori).
Idris Elba is suppose to have a big part however.
Charlie HUNNAM is the STAR of the film (Raleigh Antrobus).
Charlie DAY is a supporting character.
Idris Elba is also a supporting character, but has a prominent role… but definitely not the lead.
budget is much bigger then 150 mill

That’s my favourite restaurant at the corner there.
I’m sure it will look a little better on film, but to my eye that looks exactly like Toronto with Japanese signs. Wide streets, big cars, space between buildings…doesn’t look much like Tokyo.
