It’s been quite some time since we heard anything about 20th Centry Fox’s new adaptation of the Mary Shelley classic Frankenstein, but the last word on the project was that Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe was possibly interested in taking on a starring role.  The project has been in development for a couple of years, with Shawn Levy initially attached to direct before Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin, Sherlock) stepped in as his replacement last September.  The pic has a script by Chronicle scribe Max Landis, and now it looks as if things with Radcliffe are actually firming up as the actor is in final talks to play Igor.  Hit the jump for more.

Though Matthew Vaughn was previously set to direct the X-Men: First Class sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past only to step down and let Bryan Singer take the helm instead, it looks like he might be involved with another upcoming 20th Century Fox superhero property.  Vaughn remains a producer on Days of Future Past, and now proverbial Chatty Cathy Mark Millar has revealed that Vaughn will also be producing Fox’s upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, which will be directed by Chronicle helmer Josh Trank.  Hit the jump for more.

Bridesmaids breakout Melissa McCarthy is set to make her feature debut as a leading lady this weekend with the release of the comedy Identity Thief, but the actress and her husband Ben Falcone are already setting up three more upcoming projects with their newly-formed On the Day production banner.  Briefly:

• Michelle Darnell – McCarthy will star in and produce this comedy for Universal based on an original character of her creation and a story idea hatched by McCarthy and Falcone.  Falcone will produce and write the script alongside McCarthy and Groundlings member Steve Mallory.
• Cousin Irv From Mars – This adaptation of the upcoming book by Bruce Eric Kaplan (Girls) will be developed by On the Day at Universal, with Kaplan writing the script.  The story centers on a boy and his weird cousin who happens to be from Mars.
• Just Do It – McCarthy and Falcone board this Fox adaptation of the sex-help book of the same name by Douglas Brown.  The duo will produce and take a pass on the existing script by Michael Aguilar (The Departed), and McCarthy is attached to appear in the film.

Fans looking forward to the release of the upcoming fifth film in the Die Hard franchise, A Good Day to Die Hard, now have the opportunity to experience the absolute maximum amount of Die Hard before watching the new film.  20th Century Fox announced today that a five-film Die Hard marathon will be playing in theaters on February 13th.  Fans will watch Die Hard, Die Hard 2: Die Harder, Die Hard with a Vengeance, and Live Free or Die Hard back-to-back, leading up to a screening of director John Moore’s A Good Day to Die Hard a few hours before it opens wide.  That’s a lot of Die Hard.

If all goes according to plan, 2015 will be one ridiculous year for movies.  Currently, The Avengers 2, Justice League, Ant-Man, Star Wars: Episode VII, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 are all tentatively slated for 2015 release dates.  Now Fox is throwing one more highly anticipated title into the pile, as their Fantastic Four reboot now has a March 6, 2015 release date.  Titled The Fantastic Four, the film has Chronicle director Josh Trank at the helm and Jeremy Slater penning the screenplay.  Plot details are practically non-existent at the moment, but with two promising gents creatively spearheading the project, there’s certainly hope for a fun take on the comic book property that will help us all put Tim Story‘s overly cheesy films out of our memory for good.

Additionally, Fox has announced that a number of their upcoming films will be post-converted to 3D.  Hit the jump for more.

A new trailer for the 20th Century Fox animated film Epic has been released.  The story tells of a hidden land deep in the forest where the battle between the forces of good and evil continues under our very noses.  A teenage girl is magically transported into their secret universe by shrinking down to their size, where she must combine forces with an assortment of colorful characters in order to save both worlds.  The pic still looks a little like Ferngully 2013, but I’m not entirely sure that’s a bad thing.  There’s more humor in this trailer than in the first, and the “miniaturized” story device should provide for some fun set pieces in the forest.

Cameron Diaz is looking to tackle another comedy.  The actress is now attached to star in Fox’s revenge comedy The Other Woman, which is apparently in the vein of a younger-skewing The First Wives Club.  The story centers on a woman who finds out she’s “the other woman” in a love triangle and meets up with the wife in order to conspire against the husband.  The Wrap reports that Kristen Wiig is under consideration for a role in the film, presumably that of the man’s wife.  No director is currently attached, but the pic has a script by Black List scribe Melissa Stack and the pairing of Diaz and Wiig could make for some fine comedy.

Diaz most recently filmed a role in director Ridley Scott’s drama The Counselor and will be seen opposite Colin Firth in the comedy caper remake Gambit in early 2013.  She’s next set to star in the action-comedy Agent: Century 21 alongside Benicio Del Toro.

Warner Bros. is second-guessing its musical adaptation of Jersey Boys.  The Jon Favreau-helmed project had been on track at the studio for a January production start date and Christmas 2013 release, but Variety now reports that WB has put the project into turnaround.  The film is based on the smash hit musical and tells the story of The Four Seasons, chronicling the group’s rise in the 1960s with such hits as “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Walk Like a Man.” It’s a whole lot of fun, and having seen the show I’d liken it to a musical version of a lighter Goodfellas.

I woke up this morning to find that yesterday’s massive Star Wars: Episode VII news was, in fact, not a dream.  In a massive deal, George Lucas sold his LucasFilm studio to Disney, paving the way for a new Star Wars film set to hit theaters in 2015.  Though further entries in the beloved franchise were a major part of the news, many were quick to realize that with Disney now in control of the LucasFilm empire, fans may finally get a home video release of the original Star Wars trilogy sans Lucas’ tinkering.

Well, it turns out that further Star Wars home video releases are tied up in a tricky bit of legal shambles, as 20th Century Fox still owns Episode IV: A New Hope.  Hit the jump for more.

Jason Segel and Drew Pearce have sold a high profile pitch to Fox.  The duo will write and executive produce a narrative feature film adaptation of the documentary The Other F Word.  The doc, which features interviews with rock artists like Flea, Mark Hoppus, and Tim McIlrath, focuses on aging rock stars trying to balance their punk rock views with the responsibilities of fatherhood.  Segel and Pearce—the scribe behind Iron Man 3, Sherlock Holmes 3, and the upcoming Godzilla reboot—will write the script with Segel set to star in the film.

Segel is no stranger to screenwriting as he previously penned the fantastic Forgetting Sarah Marshall and co-wrote The Muppets and The Five-Year Engagement.  The actor seems a tad young to take on a father role here, but I’m inclined to believe that he and Pearce have come up with an interesting take on the premise and will be able to craft a script filled with humor and heart.  Hit the jump to watch the trailer for the documentary.

One of the more pleasant surprises of 2012 was director Josh Trank’s low-budget “superhero” film Chronicle.  The pic was a hit with audiences and critics alike, and Fox naturally tapped the first film’s scribe Max Landis to start work on a sequel earlier this year.  Shortly thereafter Landis teased the return of star Alex Russell in the follow-up, but since then word on Chronicle 2 has been quiet.  Now we may have an idea of why, as Landis’ father, filmmaker John Landis, recently revealed that Fox isn’t too keen on what Max Landis has cooked up for the sequel.  Hit the jump for more. 

Well that was fast.  Just a couple of weeks ago rumors swirled that Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt was leaving the film’s sequel due to concerns that he couldn’t meet the 2014 release date for the follow-up.  Last week a shortlist of directors emerged that 20th Century Fox was apparently looking at to replace Wyatt, but Let Me In helmer Matt Reeves was listed as the frontrunner.  Lo and behold, Reeves has officially landed the gig and will now steer Dawn of the Planet of the Apes towards its May 23rd, 2014 release date.  Hit the jump for more details. 

Mark Millar has been the source of an abundant amount of (fairly inaccurate) information regarding his comics properties and feature film adaptations over the years, and now he’s set to formally consult on 20th Century Fox’s Marvel properties.  The studio announced today that the Kick-Ass creator will serve as a creative consultant on Fox’s upcoming projects based on Marvel Comics properties.

Fox owns the rights to a number of Marvel characters, and Millar has some experience with the comics outlet having written books like The Ultimates, Civil War, and Wolverine: Old Man Logan.  He also wrote the comics Kick-Ass and Wanted, both of which were adapted for the film medium.  Hit the jump for more regarding Millar’s duties at Fox.

Allen Hughes (The Book of Eli) has signed on to direct a remake of the Korean crime drama A Bittersweet Life.  The 2005 original revolves around a hotel manager, Sunwoo, who doubles as the right hand man for a mob boss, Kang.  Kang turns on his former confidante after he botches a job involving a mistress, and Sunwoo must fight for his life alone against the goons sent out to kill him.  Deadline reports that Fox and New Regency are fast tracking the project, and they hired Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes) to write a new draft of the script.

Albert Hughes is one half of the Hughes brothers who directed the likes of The Book of Eli, From Hell, and Menace II Society.  Hughes recently directed his first feature without his brother, Broken City, due in theaters on January 18, 2013.  Hit the jump for a trailer and full synopsis for the original Bittersweet Life.

In a bit of startling news, 20th Century Fox Co-Chairman and CEO Tom Rothman will be leaving the studio.  In letter to Fox staff, Rothman says he will resign on January 1, 2013.  A source tells THR that all studio operations will be consolidated under studio co-chairman Jim Gianopulos.  It’s a surprising departure considering Fox’s recent good fortune at the box office with hits like X-Men: First Class, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Chronicle.  Rothman had been with Fox for over 18 years.
